Interior Rear Hatch release Button

I just went out and started fresh today
I got it all working
Seems with my truck i need to leave the battery disconnected for 5 mins or more for it to reset

Mods feel free to clean up my earlier rants to keep this mod clutter free

Only thing is now i seem to have lost the auto down and up features on my windows

your saying to roll the side windows all the way down then back up
do i have to disconnect the battery before i do that?
And do i need to do it to each one?

no don't disconnect the battery, its the same as the back one. only the drivers is automatic, roll it all the way down and all the way back up and it should go back to normal.
 
so any time after the battery is disconnected you need to normalize your windows auto feature (sunroof, drivers, rear hatch). the procedure can be found the owners manual...

I was curious if anyone has put a rear window button in the rear hatch area next to this unlock button?

Thank you, I think i got the gist of what to do, I just want to make certain what wires to use for switch. Use momentary switch wired parallel right?
 
I sleep in the back of my rig and its a pita to open the hatch from the inside so this is what i came up with.

Is this correct for an 07? Don't know if this is true for all 4th gen years.. I can't fine to much info on wire colors. Looking into doing this mod..

this adds a pushbutton on the inside of the rear hatch to open it.

use at your own risk, if something frys its not my fault.

Materials:
2 ft 18-20 ga wire
1 momentary pushbutton
1 toggle switch with safty cover
2 1/4" spade connectors
piece of electrial tape

Tools:
Drill with 1/2" bit
soldering iron
screw driver

switch packages. these are just what i used, and momentary pushbutton is fine. i wanted the safty cover so that the button couldnt accidently be pushed. the toggle was 4.99 and the button was 2.49




Start by removing the screw that hold the pull strap on.
then just pull down (or toward the front of the car if the door was closed) on the cover, it is held on my body clips aroudn the bottom and three tabs where it meets the glass.

once removed you will see the rear door ECU


we want the purple with white stripe and the light geen with red stripe. i have already stripped a little off them in this pic.



now lets open up the toggle switch. we only want to cover so take the switch part out.


once the switch is removed, we are going to need to open the hole up a little for the push button to fit. carefully use the 1/2" drill bit to do this.

now open up the push button and solder a couple of pig tails onto it.


I forgot to take a pic, but put a small zip tie on the wire just below the switch, this helps keep the weight of the bouncing wires from tugging on one post or the other of the switch.

now drill a 1/2" hole where you want to mount the switch. and then install the button and the cover. this is where i chose to put mine.


and the back side. you can see i already put the connectors on also.


so strip the ends of the pig tails and crip on one half of the 1/4" spades, doesnt matter which ones go where. its just a continuity circuit.

Bumping this thread, wondering if anyone knows if the wiring will be the same on an '07 as an '03? Ive seen cautionary posts about the wiring so just trying to assess before I get started. Thanks!
 
Interior hatch release button thread bump #2

Hey! I am also interested in that wiring information. I just inherited my wife's 2007 SR5 (lucky girl got a brand new 'runner) and want to do a variation on this mod. I don't really need an inside switch near the hatch, but I sure would like to have a release that is accessible from the driver's seat. In fact, I'd like to install an OEM-looking switch in the lower left section of the driver's dash where I have several blank switch positions for options not on this vehicle. Any ideas? Also have an additional question. If I close the hatch incompletely after fully opening it from outside, there is a motorized mechanism that completes latching it. After this mod, if the new switch is pressed accidentally to release the hatch, but it is not opened further, will cycling the switch a second time initiate the automated latching, or is that a separate function entirely? Thanks!
