Not to bring up an old thread but it looks like the model of rack you originally posted is no longer available. Would the BSR-1 be a comparable model? Looks like the mounting is a little different but I love what you've got posted originally.

I got this rack, and even though the box said BSR-1, it is the BSR-2, 2 gun model. I routinely drive too fast on big bumps, and it is still back there, solid. I've noticed the shotgun I carry there gets dusty, so every once in a while I take it out and clean it.

Otherwise, I'm not normally an "every day carry" kind of guy. I understand that just owning a gun increases your chance of being shot to death. I got it because I kept running into tweakers in remote locations, then there was a rogue "militia" member in my area shooting people (Washington, CA). The gun sits up there, out of sight, for if I need it. Just another tool in the tool bag. Oh, and I keep a bokken (wooden katana) in the second position, for when my droogs and I don't want to escalate straight to ultra-violence.

The photo of that rack appears to mount differently than the rack I have. I assume it would still work but it appears that you would probably have to drill into the metal supports behind the headliner so it would not be as simple an installation. You may be better served to try to find an old stock version of what I have. Cabela's was selling them, and may well still have old stock on closeout. Or possibly consider calling Big Sky racks and asking them. If that model was discontinued it was discontinued quite recently because other people I know have bought those as recently as a few months ago.

(Cabela's, eBay, 2-rifle version on Amazon, Wally-World) Which raises the question too, has anyone used the 2-rifle version just for the extra capacity? Mine actually is the 2 gun model (it was the same price on sale or something when I bought it) and I just removed the 2nd gun's mounts. I see no reason why it wouldn't fit with a second gun in the same location, as long as the gun fits in the curvature of the ceiling.

Respectfully, does 'just owning a fire extinguisher increase your chance of being burned to death' with that rational...? Or does just wearing a seat-belt increase your risk of being killed in an accident?

Does owning a hammer increase your risk of being bludgeoned to death with a hammer...?

You're correct that it's just a tool. A tool in the hands of good people is used for good things... correct things. The same, inanimate object, a tool, in the hands of a bad person can be used for bad things.

I am NOT here to stir the pot, but I believe Bodie is simply stating you likelihood of injury increases with the responsibility of owning a firearm. -E5J- I feel is slightly missing the intended statement. It would be closer to: Owning a hammer increases the chances of you hitting your thumb with it. It's just a statistic that likes to get thrown around - and doesn't really have any actual bearing.

But really, the odds are increased just because it is there. This is especially relevant to suicides, because after people have a chance to cool down, they often don't go through with it. But if they do have a convenient tool (gun) right there, they can use it in the heat (or drunkeness) of the moment. It gets thrown around because it is relevant.

so does the mere act of owning and driving a car not increase your risk of an accident? does off-roading not increase your chance of getting stuck, simply by doing it. does skiing not increase our odds of being injured on the slopes vs those that stay home? OF COURSE IT DOES. so yes the data is clear owning a gun, having one in your home vastly increases your chances of being shot with a gun, even your own!! Part of being an adult is being allowed to and capable of assessing risk. I own 9 firearms and do not leave my home EVER, not even to go to the dump or walk my dog without one. I am very aware of the risks and have made a choice. A choice that is mine to make.

Instillation

Finally got the rack in and going to install it. Looks like it's too wide from the factory and has to ben cut down about 4". Was this the case with y'all's as well? I ordered the SBR-2 from Cabbalas with a gift card I had and the total price was still under $100.
