Anyone run something similiar to this? I am wanting to do this in my 4runner and am not having any luck finding something that will work

The one in the first pic is just a shelf from a metro rack. Another possibility would be a garage ceiling rack if you are looking for something metal.

Is it made for the 4Runner? Do you have a link?

Neither are made specifically for mobile use. The first one can be bought at about any store, but generally you have to buy the whole rack.
Some quick examples
Trinity 4-Tier Wire Shelving Rack, Bronze - Walmart.com
Honey-Can-Do 4-Shelf 60 in. H x 36 in. W x 14 in. D Steel Shelving Unit in Chrome-SHF-01456 - The Home Depot

Something like this could work but it's not very deep
ClosetMaid Close Mesh 6 ft. x 20 in. Ventilated Pantry Shelf-1396 - The Home Depot

This is a sample of the garage ceiling rack
HyLoft 45 in. x 45 in. Ceiling Storage Unit-00540 - The Home Depot

I would feel so uncomfortable sitting in the back seat.

I can't imagine how that is secured that it wouldn't be coming at you, head level, in the event of a crash.

I used a bungee net to make my interior roof storage. It won't hold alot of heavy items, but for camping it will hold what I need.

At first this idea sounded cool, but then I hate anything blocking my rear view. What about the Antman rear cargo shelf? I was actually in a thrift store today looking for a headboard to cut up.

Yep, Home Depot sells metal clothes closet shelves similar to your first picture. Replaced the rear coat hanger hooks with Toyota Striker Assembly #58460-35012 (x2). Hung the rack from the striker assemblies a year ago to see if it would work (ya know just to test fit). It's still there, still haven't mounted it permanent. It hasn't moved and I only put light stuff on it. It does block a bit of the rear view mirror. I bought 18"X48" (x2), and doubled them up so I have a front lip and a rear lip to keep stuff from sliding off.

No pics, I can barely log on to the interwebs.

Cool idea, just not for me - cargo area height is already limited with my set of drawers in the back. Should be easy to weld something up though.

Really more of a ceiling rack than a roof rack.....

Nobody's going to mention the hatchet zip tied, blade forward, to the bottom of that rack? I'd save my money and go a different route.

There are similar, albeit smaller, options from 4WP and others that hard mount to the front sun visor brackets. Not sure if they make T4R specific ones but it might suit your needs and probably wouldn't decapitate any passengers.
