Introduction and comments on the 2010 TE

Hi folks, just signed up for the forum. I had to get rid of my 2003 Taco TRD Off Road because it needed engine work and at 185k I didn't think I should do it. I loved that truck! I had a failed inspection so had to make a move and after looking around settled on a 2010 Trail. I was looking for a replacement Tacoma but now that I have a family the 4R seemed more practical.

So you old pros, could you tell me what I might expect as the major differences in the snow and through medium duty off road duty? I occasionally like to drive on the beach to surf fish or drag a deer out of the woods.

Also, never dealt with Toyota's "Certified Preowned" warranty stuff, any thoughts there?

I didn't see a lot of other Trail Editions, I like the looks better than the SR5 and appreciate diff locks when needed but it seemed like pricing was in line with other dealers SR5 prices. I didn't have time to look too much longer as the Tacoma failed inspection for the CE light... before the dealer fees of $400 and the extended warranty for $1600 I paid 25k for it with 54k miles.

What are you guys seeing in terms of prices for these?

Good looking Truck. I just picked up a 2010 SR5 with 3,700 mikes. Theres too much chrome bling for me but i really like the blacked out look on your trail. Can you post a pic of the rear tailgate?

Wow, what a deal. I almost purchased a 2013 trail last week w/52k miles for $30k. A really nice vehicle with all the options. $25k is a steal. Good job!

Real good deal. I paid 28.4k *wholesale* for a 2012 with 48k a couple weeks ago. Dealers don't want to let Trail editions go for cheap. I was scouring the national auctions and dealers in multiple parts of the country.

I too went from a Taco to a 4runner. Actually there are quite a few of us here. And almost universally we love the runner way more than our tacos! Much more overall versatile (Other than load height if you weren't running with a cap on the bed)

In fact I've never really loved any car I've ever had till I got the 4runner.

As far as offroading, I've done more in my runner than I did with the Taco, not that the Taco isn't a great offroader but I've done so much more with the runner I have to think that it's just as capable all around, assuming the same level of "build".

I think I like that front better then my 14, looks good.

Yeah I'm not a fan of the 14+ Trail and SR5s front facias. The older ones looks way better no disrespect. Now the 14+ Limited front facias have more of a upscale look verse my 2012 Limited. Don't like the black and machined 20s on the newer ones either. Much rather have the 20s my 12 came with.
Came across this pic of a couple Trails. I'm really digging the Orange Trail and his LED light bars. Nice set up.

Ya did good !!! Takes a little getting used to because 4r is a bit heavier rear end wise & it won't bounce like the taco , but ya great find enjoy !

Thanks for all the assurance it was a good deal.
I can't believe how much better it handles than a 2003 empty bed Taco, we have some pretty crazy S turn here in NJ (up in the woodsy northern part of the state) and you never know when a 500 pound black bear is going to stumble into one.
I DO miss being able to chuck some stuff in the bed and drive down to the dump or just toss some tools in the back but I already love this vehicle.

Are waterproof seats standard?

Also, I have 2 little ones and plan on throwing some deer in the back during hunting season and need a good seat protector if anyone has any thoughts on a quality product.

Get yourself a Weathertech or Husky cargo liner for the bed and Canvas Back for the back of the rear seats. These will cover the entire rear seat and the back. Autoanything has all of this and they have a 22% off discount right now.
