Is invoice price good?

The best time to buy a new car is at the end of the month and at the end of the model year around the end of Auguast through the end of October. Also a pre-approved loan in your pocket will be very helpful.

Well, I got my Salsa Red 4R today! 700 under invoice is the best I could get, but I'm happy with the final price. Really enjoyed the drive home with it compared to my 07 Tacoma I traded in. The wireless music from iPhone to head unit sounds great. First mod, tear apart the interior for some hydro-graphics..........

Congrats on the new 4runner. The dealer called me again today while I was at work. I'm sure they will drill me on the trade in of the M3. It's really hard to decide between the SR5 vs TE. I won't be off roading much at all but I just love the TE look. I had the true rear locker in my previous Silverado and I loved it. It was a beast in the snow. I wish they would offer 0% financing right now.

I think the TE looks much better than the SR5 I got........problem is, I couldn't justify the extra thousands of $$$$ for the look. I have no need for all the fancy help driving offroad that the TE comes with. Worst case, Ill drop the $1500 and add the TE bodywork.

Well, I have decided to pick up a silver SR5 with leather interior tomorrow. I really love the M3 but I suspect a transmission pump is going out very soon. I rather get rid of if before I have to spend 3k to replace it. Lesson learned, never buy a BMW without warranty. I ended up paying 500 more than MSRP due to the negative equity of the M3.

I can that say that right now, even with family friends that are dealer owners - discounted 4runners are getting harder and harder to get, shipments have all but stopped so what's there is what's there. Even used gen 5's are being listed and sold damn near new MSRP (at least in my area).

My wife and I just bought a used 2010 blizzard limited 4x4, loaded to the hilt (no nav), 11k miles, and it was still DEEP 30s. (list price was 45 and change on it)

I've had loads of 4runners, GX's, LX's, LS's, etc and the 4runners are by far the most ridiculous (in a good way) when it comes to value retention - I saw a 2008 16k miles V8 limited 4x4 sell for 31k last week.

The point is, much of the price is going to be regional, 4x4 4runners are hard to come by in my area, and at the end of the day you may not get true dealer cost, but the 4runner is one of the few toyotas still 100% made in japan and they are commanding a premium new AND used when compared to others in it's class.

A local dealer here has an incentive on TE right now. Nothing from Toyota, but they have 4 on the lot special priced for 35K at one specific dealership. Like I posted earlier, I have been getting quotes for Invoice. Example, MSRP35369 Invoice is 33108. You can build the vehicle with all the options on your 36.6K vehicle and get the invoice pricing. Tax Title and license "fees" will be dealership specific. Very very rough estimate, you will probably be around $1500 above MSRP when you are done if you can start at invoice on the vehicle.

T 4R - Where is this dealership?

Just go through Costco. They have to honor deal regardless of limited inventory. If on the lot it is yours. Usually $400-$700 under invoice. That easy.

If the MRSP for a TE is around 38k with all the stealership fees included, what would be a reasonable OTD price for this SUV. I'm looking at trading my M3 for a 4runner. They have a SR5 on the lot that I really like with black leather 4wd but for some reason the TE just looks so much better. The SR5 has a MSRP of 36.5k. I asked the dealer if there is any incentives for Sept and was told no. This is the end of the model year as I see a lot of '12 Highlander on the lot. Will there be incentives for the 4runner say Oct?

Just as an FYI. I bought my 2011 Trail on January 2nd. Invoice was shown to me on the computer at $36,422. That's what I paid, and they gave me $17k for my 2006 Taco. It was a decent deal all the way around. I know they made plenty of money, but I love my 4runnner. Worth every penny!

Is there any way to see what the Costco deal would be without going into a dealership and asking to see their Costco documentation? I configured a car on the Costco Auto Buying website, and it shows me invoice and MSRP figures, but nothing about a negotiated price.

No. There is one dealer per "territory" and they all very within a few hundred of each other. Regardless, you will get under invoice. You also get parts at dealer cost + small up charge. All extended warranties are 50% off, that's a no brainer. They actually cover more than original manufacture warranty.

Costco rules the day!

Gotcha. I am a Costco fan boy so I don't need my arm twisted too much... but I just wonder if it will beat what I can possibly negotiate with the FightingChance.com tactics (which I already bought to familiarize myself with it). :hatsoff:

Well, I configured the car I'd want to get on Costco's site, and submitted the request. Few mins later a rep called from my local dealership, and we discussed how it would work. She mentioned that the invoice of what I want was just over $34k, although as I configured it, invoice shows under $34k. She made it sound like it could be over invoice, but how much would depend. She also said that though they're technically supposed to go by what's on the lot only, since the 4R is a tough find sometimes, they'd be flexible and find one, and still honor the price... with maybe an added $200-300 delivery charge to hire someone to get the vehicle.

Just curious where your numbers of $400-700 under invoice come from. Thanks man!

They are from me. I bought my LTD 5th Gen through Costco Program and the dealer negotiated price was $700 under invoice. There was a dealer in a near by "territory" that was $400 under. For what its worth your sales lady sounds like she is not really sure of much. I am sure of one thing, for the dealership to participate in Costco Program they are required to show you on paper the negotiated pricing with Costco, but only in person not per say over the phone. That is fact. Both dealerships showed me a paper that had all models and price. I believe the Corola for example was $1,500 under, it is model specific and then applies to all versions of that model. I have a buddy in a different state that bought the exact version I have, Costco was $500 under for him. Granted I bought mine over a year ago, just going off of my experience which was a pure pleasure. Keep us posted on what you find out. Definitely make that dealer prove on paper as that is deal, if not report them using the 800 number on your print out. Costco will set them straight in a hurry.

Cool, thanks. I got the impression that she was speaking in generalities since I told her I was only doing my due diligence and not ready to buy just yet. We made no plans for me to come in and discuss the price, and I think she just didn't have it in front of her as she was just going with the flow of the conversation. I will certainly make sure I see it in print. Thanks for your help and when the time comes I will be sure to report back.
