is it feasible to repair a grille guard?

Hey guys,

After a solid 16 years and me not paying attention to it until now, looks like my grille guard has rusted through completely in the middle.

I poked a hole through this rust and made it all the way through:

The other huge problem is the rubber on the 'sides' in the front basically has holes in it. (Didn't take a pic).

Other than these 2 problems, it's still pretty solid all-around.

I would imagine most people just swap a grill guard, but I've been entertaining the idea of getting the middle piece welded with a new one and somehow replacing the rubber with new rubber.

I know how to go about the first one but no idea on the second.

Do you guys think it would even be worth it?

A brand new one looks to be a little under $300 from what I can see on a few websites so far, haven't done much shopping around yet.

The center section is easy, just weld some flat bar over it and get rid of the rust.

With the rubber stuff, I don't know how it's mounted but you could find some equivalent rubber or matting and use contact cement. We do this on jet skis with stuff called Hydroturf which is a grippy/rubbery matting you lay down in the foot tray and use normal contact cement to hold on. It'll last awhile if you clean both surfaces, especially if it's just being squished between the guard and truck.
