Is it me? (classic and lasting good looks may be gone)

I appreciate the new looks tied to earlier 4Runners but I wonder if the bulging lights and lamps and mix of straight and curved lines will make the new 4Runner look more dated as it ages.

I won't say I don't like it until some time passes and also admit that we're not love struck by a number of vehicles as we consider the replacement of our 1999.

This lasting good looks thing struck me when a neighbor also shopping for cars commented that our 1999 still looks good, and how I noticed a few vehicles that wear their look well as they age.

By function the new 4Runner remains in my sights. My wife would like something larger and I'll say I would take the 4Runner over a Honda Pilot even if the Pilot is bigger. It also looks like the 4Runner has similar weight with more power and similar fuel economy ratings.

Normally when a new generation debuts, it makes the old one look bad. That's not the case with the 5th gen.

I didn't like the 4th gen when it came out either and liked the 3rd better, mostly due to the gray cladding on the early 2003s. However, it didn't take me that long to start liking the 4th and after I got my '06, I started to like the early 2003s with the gray cladding for the uniqueness. The 5th will take quite some time for me to warm up to.
