Is my truck lame?

I get this 1996 sr5runner from my parents try to fix it up my friends tell me a 3.4 liter engine 2wd drive atomatic is no good... is that true??? they said it's a piece of s*** and can get any power from a runner

What are you trying to make out of it? How much power do you need? A 3.4 liter 4Runner is a pretty decent machine. It's not going to win any drag races but it's a good truck.

granted a 2wd wont get you anywhere offroad, the 3.4 is an awesome motor. put the right exhaust on it and they sound pretty darn good. your friends must be drivin jeeps...

A 2wd (especially if it's locked) is plenty capable off-road.

I never said he did nor did I say that it was somehow better than a 4wd, I was just saying that a 2wd 4Runner can get you plenty of places off-road.

Tell your friends they are poo poo heads. big poo poo heads...4runners are great. I love mine. My old 2wd was plenty good offroad. Of course not a 4x4 but it did better than I thought. They arent fast, but its a truck, its not supposed to be fast.

Refering to your friends: If you want your 4Runner to be fast, then no, it's not the right vehicle. Short of adding a supercharger, you can't do anything meaningful for the "fast" department. However, a supercharged 3.4 (especially with a 5-speed manual) is pretty quick truck.

I stopped caring about what people think about me and my choice in vehicles a long time ago. At the end of the day, if they don't like my junk....they can simply turn around and not look at it!

The 3.4L is a plenty Capable engine, reliable, much better than the 3.0L. The 4Runner in itself, is an awesome platform! It sits 5 adults...COMFORTABLY, has a good power to weight ratio, and if properly equiped, can be a monster off-road.

The Castrol 4Runner, belongs to C.O.B, it actually has a 4cyl in it I believe, and he has added a ton of OEM upgrades, as well as many other mods to make it what it is. He's now working on a 4WD conversion, but that truck can do pretty well off-road!

COB's was a Base model with chrome bumpers no flares 15" rims, and non-scooped hood with tiny brakes, old tailights, small suspension, Open diffs, non-bucket seats, and many other things, his is cooler than 95% of the trucks on here now, and soon it will be the coolest...
