Is my truck lame?

Be more appreciative of what you've got. Your parents GAVE you a car. You are far more fortunate than most people your age. I can just see it in a few weeks.... "Mom, Dad, I don't like this car... I want a NEW one." :barf:

Tell your friends to STFU. I bet they don't know their a holes from their elbows much less a good vehicle from one they saw somebody driving on MTV.

By the way... maybe I shouldn't have been so quick to judge in saying "be more appreciative". You might be the most appreciative dude around.

All I'm saying is that you should tell your friends to shove it. Be proud of the fact that you've got a ride. Be happy it was free. Do with it what you can, and if it's not right for you, then get a job and get whatever makes you happy.

Of course we're all going to tell you 4Runners are the shiznat. If you got a Toyota Tercel and found yourself a Tercel Forum and asked if Tercels were good cars, what do you think they'd say?

Point is... be happy with what you've got while you work on getting what you want, and next time your friends say something, give 'em a nut slap and tell 'em to walk next time they want a ride.
 
well apparently I paid 1000 bucks to my parents for my truck... lame thread? I'm concerned I'm a newbie so these guys can be real ****s sometimes
 
well to some people(pirate4x4) yeah it is kinda crap, but who cares its your truck, you dont own it for others you own it for your self.
 
you guys are right I am being more appreciative on my truck now that I have a job I decided start fixing it up... even thought of a new car came it would prolly be an 03-05 runner haha ... thanks for the advice sorry I can't reply to each individually but I am new to this and have no idea how to work this thing but I love it...

That thread will be your friend. He's got the auto (going to be going manual soon) 2WD, and a 4Cyl, just like you. I don't think anyone on this forum will talk smack about COB's truck.
 
dude be thankful your parents are GIVING YOU A CAR even if they are making you pay $1000. It is refreshing to know that there are still parents out there that don't just buy their kids $10k 4Runners with $5k budget on mods.

I would have loved to have a 4Runner in high school. My parents let me 'borrow' the station wagon a few times a week and it was not my vehicle, I pretty much rode my bicycle to school.

If you want a badass truck then go to college like the rest of us. be sure to major in something that brings home the paychecks because mods are not cheap.

yeah dude i had to work 2 summers to save up enough money to buy my truck at 16 years old, it sucked but so worth it because its mine.

Hehe, lets see if they say the same thing when theirs breaks down and your keeps going, or in 10 more years when your still runs like a top and they have new cars.
 
You will find that if you spend some time reading and learning, a bit of money, learn to do some basic work yourself, and keep your truck well maintained, it will be very good to you. If and when the time comes that you go to get something else, you'll find it is worth a lot more than you have into it, so treat it as an investment at this point. Not a lot of 1st cars can do that for you.

Not a lot of things can teach you the value of money the same way working on your own cars does. $100/hr labor at a shop, or an afternoon with some buddies doing it yourself, easy decision for me. Spend the labor money on tools instead, and you'll actually have something to show for it, plus the satisfaction of having fixed it yourself.

You can get power from it. Surprised no one mentioned the TRD supercharger. The 2wd platform is great for supercharing. Go for power rather than off-raod capibility.

You need to read/learn about the superchargers. There is a lot to understand before going that direction.

TRD Supercharger

A couple times a year a used TRD supercharger sells on ebay for $750ish. These various 4runner fourms also have them from time to time in the classifieds too. It's key to be patient and wait for the right used one to pop online.

The real decision is how much you want to spend tuning it. You can get a lot out of them OR just bolt it on, get the cooler plugs, cooler thermostat and use 91 octane to keep temps down and you'll be OK (use the stock SC pulley).

See what your buddies say when you smoke a set of tires in thier face. lol

Being that you have a great 2wd truck with a great engine I think the direction you should go is bad ass street 4runner, supercharged! :guitar2:

I'd say you are doing very well with what you have. $1000?!? 23 years ago I paid MY PARENTS 2x that amount for my first car. Then I got to also pay for insurance, gas, and repair it myself (there is no "take it to the shop" in my family).

My advice is LEAVE THE 4RUNNER ALONE and any smacktalking "friends" can walk. If you want more offroad capability and you've got some $, sell the 2wd and buy a 4wd. Take your time and shop around for a 5-speed with e-locker! If you don't think it's fast [& furious] enough, you are right.

See the First car thread and you might think you got a decent one.
 
well 1 of the guys he's pretty cool have a jeep cherokee 96 97... surprise me the other guy has a toyota 4 runner 95 4wd I think but recently before this stupid comment he ofered to buy my engine...go figure rite lol
