Is the cv axle leaking?

Heres a pic. First off what is this? Second how do I fix it? Thanks. I think its grease leaking from the boot.

3in lift does have 1in diff drop.

Definitely leaking cv. You can buy a stainless wormdrive clamp and tighten up you're existing boot, reboot or buy new cv's and have your OEM ones rebuilt if you ever need any spares.

Why does the grease look like its being splattered from some kind of spinning? Since ive been driving for a little while and more grease has come out does anyone think ive lost too much and need to have them replaced? Is it safe to put in 4wd?

Why does it look like its from spinning? Because your axles spin everytime your truck moves. There is plenty of grease in there and 4wd is fine also, but, you need to fix it sooner than later. Otherwise, the joint could be ruined if run dry or enough dirt and such get in there.

So when im driving the front drivetrain stuff is always spinning and when I put in 4wd then it locks onto the wheels to turn them? I just didnt get how the grease could spit out like that but oh well i'll have them fixed pretty soon.

Yes, your front cv axles are always turning no matter 2wd or 4wd. When you shift it into 4hi or 4lo your front drive shaft is engaged to bring the entire system together.

Yep, that looks like CV spuzz. Re-boot or buy new CV's. The other side will probably do it soon too. My boots busted within a month or so after lifting the truck.

I talked to the service manager at toyota he said I should add some grease to it before I clamp them tighter. Any suggestions on the grease?

Got the clamps on finally.



I think they were 2in dia. then I know the other was 4in diameter.
