Is there a need for cup holders on the 96-98?

In theory; Yes. In application; No. The driver has a gas pedal right up in the right corner of their space and that cup holder would constantly be in the way. The passenger isn't constantly pushing some pedal in the front left corner of their space so it's not really an issue. It COULD go there, but I think it would get real annoying, real fast. Not sure if there is space inside the center console for a double or hanging off the back. I would need to see some pics of the console from the backseat and inside the storage compartment first.

This is interesting because my 97 limited has 4 cup holders up front and 2 in the back for the back seat passengers.

Yup, looks like the previous owner did the 99+ Center Console Swap.
I'd do it, but having the parking brake handle on an angle annoys me, I dunno why. Must be my OCD.
I'll just keep using my rear passenger cup holders instead.

That swap is the reason I made this product. I originally had no intention of making cup holders for the 3rd gen 4Runner because you could just grab a junkyard console with two more cup holders. I then read through the thread on how to do the swap and realized that it was a pretty big undertaking. A lift install would be easier. That seemed like a lot of work for two cup holders. I realized that a bolt on cup holder with 2 minutes of install time might actually be more tempting. The 60 3rd gen cup holders I have already sold are proof I was right.

I was originally only going to do the 99+ console swap, but then I saw your products and wanted both. So I haven't installed the cup holder I bought from you yet because I'm waiting on cooler weather to install my 99+ console first — then I'll add your cup holder. I'll have a total of 8 cup holders then. :biggrin1:
106 degrees today and 108 tomorrow...guess ill be waiting a while yet before I get around to puting it all together. I'll post pics and my review when I do though.

Yea my 4Runner came with all kinds of bells and whistles installed like a JDM field monitor, back-up hidden camera, jumper cable remote plug-ins behind both bumpers, a remote oil filter, fox coil overs, a 110v inverter with outlets in the drivers and cargo areas, and the JDM corner running lights and blinkers on the front fenders

I realized I need to do a blanket answer to a constant question I keep getting. Every day I get an email from someone asking when I'm going to release the manual trans cup holder. The answer is... I already did. I realeased it a few weeks ago. The 2nd question is, do you have a double cup holder for the manual trans? The answer.... No. There is not enough room for a double with the 5 speed shifter and 4WD shifter. It was REALLY difficult just to get that single to fit. I have shipped out a dozen of the manual trans single cup and was really hopeful I could get someone on here to post pics of it installed. The one I have pics of installed doesn't have the notch I added for the 4WD shifter. It still fit fine but I didn't want anything touching the cup holder. I don't own a 3rd gen (that will change soon) so I can't just go out in the garage and snap pics of the new manual trans cup holder installed. Here is what I have.

It's been a while since I updated this thread. I kind of went into hiding for a couple reasons. The cup holder sells have been crazy busy and I didn't want to do anything to increase those sells. I also was waiting to become a vendor before I talked about my cup holders anymore. I'm still working on that vendor status. Should be soon. Looks like I need to update this again. The same old question keeps getting asked almost every day again. The question is; When am I going to release the 3rd gen cup holder for the manual tranny? I ALREADY DID. A while ago. I think folks are seeing the single cup holder for the manual and are waiting for the double to show up. It's not coming. There is no room for a double on the manual tranny console. The single cup holder I released for the manual tranny is all that is coming. Hopefully that will clarify the confusion and stop all the questions. I tried really hard to fit a double on the manual console but there was just no way. I had a hard time just getting the single to fit.
