Is there a need for cup holders on the 96-98?

Sorry for the super long delay on responding. I'm not on here nearly as often anymore. I would be open to developing a rear double cup holder. could someone post some pics of the backside and the center console? Maybe some measurements? Would like to know the width the console and the height from carpet to top of console. Whoever loans me their console gets a free cup holder out of it.

I would be all over the rear double. I have yet to get the front because I showed wife and she said it would take up to much room. But the rear is needed since they break so often. Please save my vehicle from my clumsy children!

Can we get some pics of it first? Definitely interested but don't want you going through the hassle of boxing it up and shipping it if the project isn't doable. I just want to make sure I have enough real estate to work with back there. A shot from the back seat would be great. Maybe a measurement from the back of the console to the front of the back seat? Also the width of the console would be another measurement I will need.

You will have two consoles to design for. The 96-98 console which are shorter and the 99-02 which are taller. The following pics are of my 99 console that I haven't yet installed in my 97.
As you can see, the rear cup holder is absent in these pics as I think that your only real mounting options would be to mount it through the existing hole and possibly into the existing screw holes. You can see the back of the plastic box that is accessible when the console lid is opened and the corresponding screw/bolt holes in the pic.
I included the tape measure to give you an idea of scale.
Let me know if you need other pics. I can take more tomorrow or take some of the 97 console still in my truck.
Here are a couple of pics of the cup holder I bought from you when you first started making them for third gens. The wife doesn't mind it there at all.

What is the big hole for on the back of the console? Looks like I'm seeing a rear heat option on the back of the console. Is that standard on all 3rd Gens? Does anyone have pics from the backseat of the factory console installed. Would like to see how much space is in the back seat. Especially between the console and front edge of back seat.

He's mine, and these are from an 01 SR5. You've got around 10" or so between the seat, and the console.

Thanks for the pics. Those cup holders look a bit flimsy. It's nice to see that there is already two factory holes with screws I can work with. Is the 10" from the edge of the console to the seat or the edge of the cup holder folded down to the seat? Do the back seats fold forward when moving out of the way? Would they hit the factory cup holder when opened up when collapsing the back seat down? Is the 96-98 console different than the 99-02 console on the backside of the console? I have some ideas already now that I see the space I am working with.

From the edge of the console. I don't have a tape with me or I'd get some real numbers on the distance.

Here is a pic of the original 1997 console in my truck currently. If you compare it with the 99+ console you can see the extra space above the cup holder spot. Not all trucks had the rear heat option. I'm not sure what differences those consoles have from those with heat. I suspect they just lack the obvious switches.
( and yes — that is a brass door hinge I installed to hold my lid onto the console until I could swap the console out with a 99+...
)

Ok. I will definitely need both consoles since the line and curves are very different in the location I would be attaching a double cup holder. Hopefully somebody has the 96-98 console just sitting around left over from their 99+ console swap. I'm thinking it may be a bit more difficult to track down the 99+ console. Hopefully we can get some takers.

I can loan you my 99 console if you are covering shipping both ways. Plus we are both in CA so shipping will be cheaper. If we are to do it though, it will need to ship out tomorrow as I will be out of town for the next week.
