Is this the future for AT Tires?

Interesting article on the Polaris Airless Tires. The article is more for ATV tires, but do you think we will see this in the future for AT tires?

Probably, although I expect those tires to be extremely noisy. Besides when I read that "Engineers shot test tires with 50-caliber rounds from an AK-47..." I had doubts about overal article credibility : )

Doubtful. Most people daily drive their 4x4s or at least drive them to and from the trailhead on paved roads and I can't see those ever being DOT approved (or whatever you guys have down there). Those also look like they'd chew up softer dirt trails.

What's wrong with that? Don't you know that all firearms are:
AK-47 assault rifles.
Fire full auto.
Are 50 cal.
Hold 100 rounds.
Use ammo that explodes on contact making a 5 foot hole in solid concrete.
Can be carried concealed in a shoulder holster or you waist band.
Are capable of shooting down an airliner flying at 30,000 feet.
Flip over a Humvee with one round.
Can be used as a sniper rifle at ranges up to 5 kilometers.
Are sold to 5 yr olds are Toys-R-Us with no background checks.

I first saw these things in wired magazine for use on our hummers. About 4 years ago. Obviously, they've gone into production and they're in service with our vehicles overseas because they're so effective. /sarcasm. The biggest problem I imagine is that they'll start compressing terribly when you actually have weight on the vehicle. Imagine permanently running on flat tires.

Saw that too! I also read an article in Car and Driver around that time, BMW was testing them. They were going to be the next greatest thing in tires.

Lol, everybody knows that here in Canada, all AK are banned because if that. But how rubber tire can withstand such a serious weapon - that what I doubt. Maybe there were shooting in the side of tires and all bullets went into those holes, but if they shoot it from the tire front 30 rounds would split tire in a half. even with toy gun such as AKSU-74 : )

This style tire had been in the construction industry for a few years. They don't go flat but the ride is terrible. These look fancier but I imagine they still ride rough.
