ISR/Deckplate mod?

Hey guys, this will technically be my first mod besides LED dash (made it red, it's sick!) I want to do these two mods, I'm more excited for the sound than the power, although the power will be helpful too :D

For the ISR, what do I use for the silencer? I was hoping to use something easy and not have it fabricated, like Jsmarine did with a wasp killer can. I've seen ones that have been machined. What should I do/use?

and on the deckplate, I can use any size correct, well, as long as it fits i mean haha. And would you recommend some meshing behind it just in case?

After these two mods, next come the spacers to get some more clearence !:trophy:

With the ISR pipe, I went to a local muffler shop, asked for a 5 3/4" long exhaust tube that was 2 3/4" diameter. He used a piece of 2 1/2" diameter pipe and expanded it. Charged me $15 for 15 mins of work and the pipe.

Also bought $5 worth of vacuum tubing from napa.

The deckplate was $10 for a 4" from the local boat store. I didn't use a screen with it. Some do, I was just too lazy.

Here is my setup.

Ya ur best bet is jsut to do the same as ripcord... i used a muffler pipe also and painted it black. The deckplate can be found at academy and is fairly cheap.

Offtopic: Well ive been wanting to do red on my dash but im wondering if u had an problems with hotspots? This is the only reason i didnt do it a year or two ago, also bc ive been kinda lazy...

thanks guys! Yeah, the wasp killer can seemed a little too...ghetto i guess haha. I'll ask around once I get my Christmas break from school.

xskydivingdudex: there are a couple hotspots, but nothing than any of my passengers noticed. Only me and my brother who also has a 4Runner (his dash is blue and white as well) could tell. Superbrightleds.com is the site i used, they are pretty quick and fairly cheap

I want to see this pic too. I miss the amber lights from my 2001 tacoma. Just seems like so much work..

Maybe i'll do it when I finally get around to installing my darn field monitor.

ok, sorry guys, i semi lied. The red dash was from my first 4Runner, a desert dune base model. I sold that just recently and now have a Imperial Jade SR5. the new one is all stock still, but I'm looking to do mods while I have the time. I'm a senior in high school, so I can't afford too much haha. but a LED dash conversion is only about $30-$40

Not a whole lot of power gain, the two together is CLOSE to the effect of a true cold air intake system (~5-8Hp max). The parts you will notice is obviously the sound, which is really awesome for even stock exhaust system, and the MUCH faster throttle response. And the throttle response is the real reason these mods are advantageous.

Why wait? You can make a few stops on the way back from school, read up on the install thread, and be done before anything good has come on TV yet!

problem with living in small towns :/ i'll probably have to drive to Waco or Austin, Texas. Both are about the same distance from me.

That does look good, has me seriously considering this. A bit bright for me though, I guess that is what the dimmer nob is for.

Ahh waco, fun place..

I see what you mean now though, gotta wait. But for me, I just can't wait that long when I have my mind set on a mod like that!

It will be worth the wait though.

It actually isn't too bright. That was taken with my iPhone, so it's hard to judge real quality. I loved it, I thought it was much easier on eyes during long night driving.

PS: Ripcord, is that a Grenade (the company) sticker on the right side of the back window?! If so, where did you get it? I've been looking for one for a while now...

Yeah, I don't remember when or where I got it exactly, probably eBay. Let me find a link real quick. The one I have is 12" white vinyl decal.

Here's one from amazon, 3rd party manufacturer: click

A few from eBay:
7" any color | eBay
12" any color | ebay
These prices are a bit high. There are other sites that have cheaper ones, for sure. Just gotta search for them.

I found some on eBay that were 30" tall! dayum.

Those red leds look nice! I picked up my pipe for the isr mod from a muffler shop, gave him the dimensions and he came back out in 5 minutes and gave it to me free of charge. Deck plate was from amazon, I think it was $12 after shipping and its also a 6 in. Vacuum lines were maybe $5 for 6ft.

For the ISR, I used my current tube and put pvc end caps in the holes with fittings for all the stock hoses. There are write up for this method.
