Isuzu Vehi-Cross?

I know that this is the 4th Gen section, but we don't have a "non-technical section" like on the RX7Club forums for this generation and I don't look at the other sections on T4R.org. :hiding:

Anyways, anyone seen one of these?

Used to laugh at them when I saw them, but on a whim recently I actually looked them up and found out they were capable off-roaders and decent toys.

Just curious what you guys think of them? Anyone actually played with one?

I remember seeing one of these in that "Mission to Mars" movie starring Gary Senice. I havnt seen any in a few years, but i used to have a buddy whose dad had one. He never offroaded with it but it did have MAJOR gremlins in the electrical and was always either at the Isuzu dealership or in the garage.

I too laughed at them at first...but now i look at it as something w potential!

LoL Same here, was like, "Hmm maybe I should get a 3rd project car... could make this my mini off-road monster!"

That first picture makes it look pretty cool and the second almost like a mini 4runner at quick glance.

The VehiCross looks cool on the outside, but is essentially a combination of the Rodeo/Trooper underneath and inside (engine is the same 3.5L as in the Trooper... interior looks like it was taken right out of a Rodeo).

I traded in a '99 Rodeo for my 4runner and it was one of the best decisions I ever made. I probably spent more time fixing it than driving it. Unfortunately, a combination of poor quality and poor customer service drove Isuzu out of business in the U.S. (at least with selling passenger vehicles).

Just for kicks i went and read some info from a "vehicross.info" site, much like this site we are a part of. Seems the most common prob's on the Vehicross were:

1- headlight trim coming off (both)
2- hood insert cracking (both)
3- chrome wheels flaking and bubbling (2001)
4- wiper arms fading and peeling (2001)
5- headlight plastic flaking (both)
6- power windows lagging (2000)
7- CD Changer (2000)

One thing i found VERY alarming is how one guy went to a dealership for one of the above problems and the salesman he dealt with said, "sure! come back early next week and we'll take care of you".....so he did,....and the place was GONE! OUTTA BUSINESS!! :redbrick:

idk if i was one of the lucky ones but i just recently sold my 93 rodeo and i loved that thing! it was my 1st vehicle so mayeb thats why...but it NEVER had a problem. and it wasnt stock either...i had a lift and 33's on it..it was a beat in the mud and all the sugar sand we have here in FLA...it was slow as piss but it always worked and never had problems! haha

I've seen at least three here in SA. one was yellow and the rest were black.

I always thought these things were pretty cool. They were like the FJ Cruiser of 10+ years ago. I don't think the quality might be bad since they were made in Japan in the same factory as the Trooper and the Troopers were always good trucks.
