In about 2 hours I will be at my dealers to put down a deposit on a car that he has agreed to get for me from about 70 miles away! This is just exciting!

I was initially a little bummed that the car would have about 70 miles on it before I was able to get my hands on it- but I really do not see any way around it, unless I agree to pay extra ( do not know how much extra) to get a flatbed truck go get it for me. What do you guys think? What would you guys do?

70m isn't a big deal as long as you know where it came from. They would have to try really hard to wreck that truck in 70m.
 
Personally I would try to go with them to pick it up or have it flat bedded. The guy they send to go get it is going to have too much fun with it on the way back and there goes your break in period. They are not going to treat it like they just spent $40k on it. It's not the 70 miles but the speed and break in I would be worried about. Congrats though and best of luck.

I had the same fear, after looking for 4 straight months for a 2011 Limited Blizzard Pearl with Black innerds, I found one at a dealer almost 100 miles away from my house. I went up and drove it and made the deal.

My dealer offered to save me the trip to pick up the truck, he said he would have it delivered by "his guy".

I pictured some 21 year old beating the snot out of my new truck--Boy was I suprised when an older gentleman ~70 pulled in my driveway with the 4Runner.
He explained how he just does this job for pocket money and he likes to drive, he then went into the whole speil on how to properly "Break In" the truck: "don't drive more that 55MPH for 2000 miles, and don't stomp on the brakes, and try not to remain at one speed for too long"

He was very reluctant to accept a tip, but I insisted.

Don't sweat it--your truck will be fine!

Agree with byrdnyrd, disagree with J.A. It's quite commonplace for dealers to employ retirees for this type work. After all, if you were a dealer, would you hire some youngster to transport cars? Not bloody likely.

I second that. There were about 350miles on my new 2010 TE. They were put on by a retired couple driving it from a dealer to my dealer and then my salesman actually drove it to a ferry for me (I bought it out of province in Canada). Truck ran great from day one. Certainly wouldn't hurt to ask who will be driving it.
 
Mine was 109 miles away. No biggie.

Radio presets were all set to hip hop / rap stations. Homey was playing with my Nav Dash on the trip up.

Got excited too soon. Apparently the dealer who was going to be asked to trade vehicles refused to let it go as it is the only one with a 3rd row that he has.
Back to square 1! Although there is a dealer about an hour away from where I live who is willing to sell an exactly similar 4 R to me for only $50 more. What do you guys think?
 
If I were you I would go pick it up myself, an hour is no big deal and you will have a nice highway drive to learn your way around the truck.

When I picked up my T4R from the dealership which is 60 miles from home, I drove a rented car from Enterprise (cost <$45). They picked me up at home and I dropped it off at the location next to the dealership. I did not have a trade-in.

anyway, are you really asking us about $50? if you are so concerned about it, call him and tell him that you will buy today if he drops it $50. or just call the dealer 70 miles away that has the truck you were set on. gl
 
Hi LONGBALLLARRY- I was not really asking about the $50 sorry about that misunderstanding. Yeah, I believe that at this point the best thing to do would be to drive over and just buy the car there.
 
I picked mine up with 60 miles on it 2 days ago. Hope I didn't make a mistake based on some of the comments here. That said, I bought a Ford F150 that had 8 miles on it. I put 5 of those miles on it on the test drive. On the drive on the way home the transmission started slipping out of gear. Had the transmission fail with less than 20 miles on the truck. So while low mileage eliminates a jerk from messing up the car, it isn't a guarantee of no issues.

FWIW the replacement truck, which had 200 miles on it, was flawless.
 
My mom's 2010 Rav4 had 263 miles on it when she took delivery. 15k miles later, not a single defect and she's getting 27mpg in a 270hp, AWD CUV. I wasn't sold on the Rav, initially (I was pushing her toward a Venza), but it has turned out to be an amazing little CuteUte.
 
I special ordered my 4Runner to get the color and option pkgs that I wanted. They found that the exact vehicle I wanted was in route to a dealer located 60 miles away. The odo read 62 when I took delivery. 11K miles later, I have had no issues with the vehicle and it still has the new car smell. It would have been nice to have had those extra 60 miles, but I have no complaints.
 
Mine had 23 miles on it and it went straight from the boat to the dealer. But I figure the guys at port need to eat too, they probably took it on a BK run or two, no prob. :cheers:

I am with JA. I took delivery on my rig with only 2 miles on the ODO. I've worked at dealerships and I know that 70 yo driver is an exception to the rule. Most dealer drivers treat it like a rental!
 
Why not deal with the dealer who had the car in the first place? 70 miles away is less than a hour drive that you can use as a negotiation tool.

10 buck a hour lackey driving a new car that is not his, equals hilarity behind the wheel.

Much can happen in 70 miles, remember the wacky stunts many of us have done behind the wheel when we were less "mature".
