Ok guys, I just wanted to mention something real quick. Apparently a few of you think you can tow things with your 5th gens, well, if you keep this up some 4th gen v8 guys might find out about this and get real mad. Best keep this a secret or else they will come over here and remind us that there is no way a 5th gen could tow a dog much less, GASP, a badass ski boat.


Just trying to save some lives here, I'm no hero, just a normal guy like everyone else...

P.S.- that 94 made me happy in the pants, just saying

Good point Hawkdog. I think the V8 owners are like diesel owners. They think you can't tow anything without either. If you are under 5k lbs, why not tow with a V6 and get better gas mileage when you aren't towing...which for me is about 95% of the time. It's not like the 5th Gen is a cross over. It's still a truck and you shouldn't be afraid to use it as such.

We have a 21' Bryant runabout boat that we trailer to the lake once a week. I believe it is around 4,000 lbs.

It's a 2010 with the 4.3 fuel injected V6. It has 220 HP but they changed the cat converter so it only has 210. It will still pull wakeboarders and tubes with 6 in the boat. I will post a picture later today.

Not to bad for guessing. So I am over 4000lbs with trailer, full of fluids and full coolers

Towing with 5th Gen

I spoke to Toyo tech services today regarding the use of weight distribution trailer hitch with the 5th gen tow set up which is a weight carrying hitch with no aftermarket alternative at this time.

"The 2011 4Runner may utilize a weight distribution hitch, but the rated maximum trailer / trailer cargo weight must not be exceeded. This towing weight specification, for the 2011 4Runner, is listed in the Owner's Manual"

For those who are curious.

Are you talking about replacing the existing hitch, or the use of a drawbar that can distribute the weight? I have a 19ft camper that has this type of drawbar, and I was wondering if I could use it...

It tops out at about 48-49mph. We upgraded to a bigger prop which is better for out of the hole for wakeboarding and tubing but it reduces top end. We don't really go over 30mph so its not an issue.
