IVD Plating

So I am getting ready to order an Icon Stage 2 set with tubular UCA's. There is an option to add IVD plating to the front CO shock bodies for an extra $100. Just wondering if any of you guys could comment one way or the other on this option.

Also if you would recommend the UCA cover caps.

I got the IVD, not sure if it's worth it. My setup still looks and performs great, so maybe it works, maybe it doesn't really matter.

As far as the cap covers go, I really think Icon could have done a better design. They are held on with double sided tape so when you go to lube your uniballs you have to reseat them with new tape. This led to one of mine flying off on the highway. I think they could implement some kind of small set screw. That being said, I got a new one and am waiting to put it on my rig.
 
I have the IVD (Indiana winters). I have not taken the covers off. I spray mine from the bottom with T9. I do have the billet uppers (versus the tubes) so I'm not sure if that makes a difference.

Hard to say if the IVD is doing anything, but everything looks awesome after one of the crappiest winters we've had in a long time. I do spray my components down with T9 once a month.

I'm liking them. I also checked, and on the billets, the caps are screwed on.

Anecdotally, they seem to have less issues than the tube UCA's.

I pulled mine off a while back and used 3M double-sided tape from home depot/lowe's and it works great and holds strong. Didn't attempt to re-seat the old tape as I could just pull it off pretty easily.

This sort of thing is what makes me think the covers can cause more harm than good. If something gets in there (water, mud) then it's just going to sit and cause more harm. Uncovered you can just clean them out easier every time you wash your truck.
 
I paid for the IVD coating on my Icons but it's still to early to tell if it was worth the added cost. I figured more protection is better (if it works as advertised). I also have T9 To try this winter.

As for UCA's, I spent a long time researching the prs and cons of the 4 major UCA's available to us (Icon, Total Chaos, Camburg, and LR) and ultimately decided on the Total Chaos after reading through thousands of posts only and talk with several different people. I could not be happier with my decision. I just make sure I clean out the top of the joint and add a little Triflow at each wash.

I re-seated with double sided tape but it still came off.
