I was just out changing my oil and listening to my ham radio. Just heard a guy calling for help because another guy had rolled his jeep near olallie lake and had been there for two days. Had to make a 911 call for the guy. Reinforces my point that ham radio is crucial when you are in the middle of nowhere and need help.

cool! my wife gets a free Ham radio and training through her work as a medical professional , i'm attending the first class with her next weekend i'm really stoked! i'll drop you my call sign when i get one! lol

ok, so got back from the dealership yesterday, legend auto sales in Burien , and they really stepped up as there ended up being problems with the motor, some of the major seals and a freeze plug (back of motor...) were leaking, not to mention the timing belt and water pump needed to be done again in 4k or so, after a bit of a chat we/they decided to replace most of the major seals and gaskets in the motor along with the t-belt and water pump....
the leaks weren't major but coming from major places if that makes any sense.
anyways these guys only had a very slim profit off of my purchase (like 5-600 bucks if that) and are now offering to split the cost of all of the above work with me, which is fair enough, my mech for 20 years (family mech and toyota specialist) quoted around 3k of work to fix everything and button the motor up tighter than ducks butt hole, so for basically another 1.5 i get all new seals/gaskets in the motor and the t-belt and water pump done, seems worth it to me as if i even found one with lower miles that wasn't slowly leaking from these spots they very well could after i start driving for a few months, at least this way i know where i'm at when i start out.
i take it in on monday for motor dis-assembly and inspection and we'll see what happens from there, so, it looks like i'm sticking with this truck at this point, as everything else on the truck is in good condition for the age and seems to run well, there are also a few other small leaks but they are coming from places i'm not overly concerned with steering rack and such, and more of a sweating, or seeping from those places,rotors needs to be turned ect... after all it does have 174k on it and probably wasn't babied as much as my previous one was.....but is a fair starting point.....
the insurance company (allstate) pretty much hit this one out of the park, they gave me 8k and some change with the truck back within a matter of days, the check should arrive today or tomorrow and the truck arrives with me today as well, they worked fast and got the job done with little hassle on my end, i was kind of shocked we didn't have to argue over value , it's kind of hard to argue when they present a fair and reasonable offer like that, i am going to be a little bit short when trying to replace everything because it wasn't a 100% straight across for the new truck and the add-ons but i do have 80k less miles on the truck as a whole, so i take that as a wash...
i'l go out and take some more photo's today if the wrecker shows up with the truck today, i'll try to get some mechanical shots showing the damage to certain parts of the truck so we can have a better idea of what happened.
i'm leaving to go camping again after work today so i may not get to this till after the weekend or ever if another tree falls on my truck...wish me luck and tell me what you guys think of all of this, i want to know what you'd guys do in this case, really i just want my truck back.....

Sounds like insurance treated you well (NOTHING like my claim, lol), and you were able to find a truck you like, and the dealer is working with you to get it tip-top at a price that agrees with you. I'd say you're making out just fine considering everything, glad to hear this hasn't turned into a bigger nightmare.

haha right, it's still a bit stressful though isn't it? looking at suspension packages right now since the rear end is probably no good any more and i was never that big of a fan of the front end, so back to shopping around for good deals, and the problem is i already know what i want so now it's just getting it for a price i can afford....anyone got a lead on some icons,kings or fox's in the sub 1k range foe the front and around 5-6 for the rear, i've seen them on sale for around that before....

Is the insurance company taking the truck? 'Cause I was just contacted about buying the body from the 4Runner I am parting and then sent a picture of the vehicle it was going on...which was YOUR 4Runner. Sounds like its going back on the road.

Glad you got a fair deal with Allstate. I was with them a long time ago and made the switch to Progressive when they had a better rate. They were a total PITA to deal with when I had an accident that wasn't even my fault. After that I went back to Allstate. That gives me a little piece of mind.

sounds like we might know the same people, lol , i haven't gotten much interest in individual parts besides the bumper and wheels and such (which im keeping) so I'm still trying to decide what i want to do with it, right now the offer is 1k with all of the parts i want to keep off it, which is right around what i paid the insurance company for it, so far i'm happy with this but am still a couple hundred bucks short of replacing my roof rack....
the parts i'm keeping are :
the bumper (kind of swapping)
tires/wheels (possibly swapping if the price is right, i like them 5-stars..)
taco whip (swapping)
stereo (swapping)
tow hitch
drivers seat (swapping)
bug deflectors..possibly..depends on what happens to them and the truck when i go to pull them off.
swapping means i'll pull it off the new truck and it goes with the old one.
so, there you have it, that's where i'm at, make me an offer, at this point though I'll give preference to someone who wants to try and keep it on the road or off road for that matter, she deserves to be driven if the opportunity is there and i want whoever has it next to have a fair deal and starting point. the only thing i'm really taking and not putting back with it is the tow hitch....
so decide what it's worth to you and let me know, like i said i'm happy enough with the deal that's on the table right now or call your/our buddy and work something out with the two of you, but i really don;t want to take less then what's being offered right now, otherwise i'll just strip and part as i know there's quite a bit of money there in parts , i would rather not deal with that though if given the option.

Fair enough. At this point I don't want to step on his toes or try and buy it out from under him. I can pay more then he can, but I can always wait for the next deal. Just would have preferred a PM back, but its your truck so I can't be upset about it.
I will work it out with him, but it sounds like he is buying the body from my 4Runner and your 4Runner will make it back on the road. Possibly Offroad heh.

haven't responded to any pm's as i didn't know what i wanted for it or what it was going to cost to buy back until yesterday afternoon, i went to my buddies house about 2 hours after i found out and he mentioned someone wanted to buy my truck local, so i came here today and threw this out here to give a forum member a chance, like i said, i want it back on the road/dirt and it would be even cooler if it was a forum member so we could wheel the old rig and the new rig side by side, that would be sweet!
i don't know the guy personally, friend of a friend, so let's talk, like i said that's between you guys and if you want to bow out that's up to you, i'm not trying to start a bidding war but if i could get the extra money for a roof rack that would seal it, but again i understand your position and don't know
how well you know this guy, so that's up to you, i haven't even personally spoken with the guy yet , just been using a buddy to relay info.
i prefer to keep things in the open so deals are done legit and people can see how you/I work, if that makes any sense.....
if there had been some sort of firm agreement we wouldn't be talking about this right now, i had an offer not an agreement as far as I'm concerned at this point.
if anyone else see's this as unfair let me know, i try my best but sometimes am unaware .......

Is this the silver 99 Limited that had an e-locker, had no rear window spoiler, etc?
I hope you talked them down significantly from their advertised price.

well there were 3 of them with those spec's, advertised price was 8,6xx which is about $300 over bluebook and i talked them down, i hope you realize that here in the NW we have about a 15-30% mark up on these trucks, that's part of the reason i got 8k for mine with 260k on it (i actually got 9k but bought the truck back) so take that for what you will, it's expensive to get a 4runner here!

also minor update:
this has cost me a little bit of cash in the end (3k or so) and last week i almost went postal on the guy taking 20 mins to order his coffee because i was so stressed with everything going on, and to be clear the truck getting smashed wasn't really stressful within itself , but the things that are part of that , like dealing with insurance, towing services, finding a new car,dealing with the new dealership, and so on and so forth......
really though my insurance company has been great paid out with little effort and are going back and giving me a bit more cash for a few things that i missed originally.....dude i had alot of little $50-100 extras that i completely forgot about....
today was the first day that i started to have any fun with it, talked with Carl at justdifferentials.com for about an hour and finally settled on a radflo coilover in the front and billies in the back with some LC coils at a really good price which may leave me money left over for a winch or the baja rack i was looking at !!!

so yeah, sometime next week i'll update this thread with the on going build of the new one or maybe just start a new build thread all together, what do you guys think? keep adding here or kick off something new?
also opinions on the suspension i went with, haven't heard much about them but Carl sells both king and radflo and said for what i had to spend they are the way to go and had them valved for my 4runner setup (arb,winch ect).
i'm really looking forward to a proper coil over and bill setup over the OME i came from before!
