JBL in Non-JBL

Does anyone know if a JBL 6 disk headunit work in a non-JBL 4 Runner? Both are 07. I have a buddy that wants to get rid of his 6 disk and I have the non-JBL. If we swap will it work? He doesn't care about losing the "surround sound" option but does want the sub to still work.

you would need his jbl amp as well in order to get the wiring to hook up. This would probably require him to unhook the sub as I assume it is hooked up through the jbl amp.

JBL is a digital signal unit, where Toyota unit is analog. You'd need new amp and speakers rewired.

I am not sure he needs to rewire anything. When I got my nav unit i just had to plug the jbl amp in between the normal wiring harness and the new head unit.

Thanks for the replies. Sounds like more then just a head unit swap. If so I guess I'll have to pass.

Sounds like you made your decision, but just in case you reconsider, you also have to replace the plastic dash piece that goes around the radio as the JBL and non-JBL fit differently. The JBL is "flush" while the non-JBL is "recessed".
