I've had this problem occaisionally. I have an '05 Limited w/ NAV. When it first happened I thought I had somehow blown the speakers, because that's what it sounded like. I don't crank it up too much so this seemed unlikely to me, but I was pissed nonetheless. Since then it has gone away. It could be some sort of intermittantly malfunctioning fader or other effect which is producing this sound.

I too had these same "issues" with my 04 (with the Factory 10-disc JBL system of course).
I pretty much always had the volue at 40-50 depending on the situation. Which was fairly loud, but nothing too extensive. I'd like to keep my hearing past the age of 40. My point is that I too had to have it turned up fairly high to get it to a normal listening level. I just assumed this was "normal".
As far as the rear speakers were concerned, I always noticed that the level from the rear speakers was extremely minimal. I never could figure out what the issue was. And since I don't sit back there more than a few times a year (if that), I never put much effort into it. But I did notice it. You almost couldn't hear anything in the back if the stereo was low enough. Again, I wasn't exactly sure what the issue was here but I thought maybe that was normal and it was just another negative with the JBL system (which I found to be horrible).
My solution - replace the entire system, wiring and all. $5000 later am I happy? Hell yeah. But my wallet hurts

I'm sure there is a cheaper solution out there!!!My rear passengers always complain that they can't hear the stereo as well. It's seems to be a common characteristic in the JBL 10 spkr system. Don't know why factories put so much gimmicky "surround", "10-spker", blah blah when a quality amped with quality drivers in the standard 4 positions will do wonders. Guess it's just a matter of checking the box when it comes to features.

I checked the remote for the rear audio...it does not have a volume control on it. As long as it sounds good in the front, thats all I'm concerned with!
