New to the 4runner world. WestTX area.
Have already taken her to the Pecos wilderness in Northern NM with some of my "Jeep" buddies. I can honestly say I was amazed at how well she did. After all the research etc. I was still a little naïve being from the Jeep world. But left (along w/Jeep owners) highly impressed. And we did it in style!:drum:
The only upgrade ive done has been tires (BFG KO2) stayed stock size for now. The lift will be down the road, if I do one at all. I don't expect to be doing any major rock crawling. More overland type stuff. C4 lo has been ordered along with Baja roof rack.
All that said and again having owned a jeep prior where the sky is limitless for accessories, Is there somewhere that sells mods for 4runners? I found a few places through the web, other thread's etc. Just curious. Maybe that's a good deal? staying independent.....

Welcome. I have always been a Jeep fan/owner myself. I have not yet pulled the trigger on a 4runner, still researching and deciding used vs new, CPO used, trim, etc.

Jeep started going downhill after they discontinued the 4.0. Nothing beats the mid-90s 4.0 HO engine. We had a '96 Cherokee Country and a '93 Wrangler S with 4.0 and they were both built like a brick shit house.

The 4Runner hands-down beats the Jeeps I've had (one ZJ 5.2 and XJ 4.0/5 speed) as far as the daily driving/refinement/build quality goes. I can't help but miss my '97 ZJ's V8 power... don't miss the 14 MPG it brought, though.

Hey nothing wrong with a Jeep, loved my 4.0 Cherokee, put 100k on that thing and loved every mile. That being said the 4runner is a bigger, and better riding vehicle IMO

Hello I’m a jeep guy also had 4 of them going to try out a 4Runner TRD Offroad. Glad to hear yours did well Offroad. I’m not looking to rock craw but hoping the runner does well on the trails I would like to try some over landing

I've had a 4Runner for several months now, and so far am pretty pleased with it. Previously, I had four Jeeps (Wrangler Unlimited, 2 Cherokees, and a Wrangler). They've all been very reliable, and I never had any issues with them, but was looking for something a little more comfortable this time. I considered a Grand Cherokee, but ended liking the 4Runner more and went with a TRD Pro. I've lifted it, added light bars and a rack, a winch, and a few other minor things. The one thing I don't like about the 4Runner are the side view mirrors. Coming from the Wrangler Unlimited most recently, that had big square truck-like mirrors, and I do miss them...especially now after having lifted the 4Runner. I've been looking online, and so far haven't found any aftermarket side view mirrors. I guess I'll keep my eyes open, but as far as I can tell, there aren't any options out there.

Supposedly the Rav4 mirror inserts are a direct swap. Not everyone is happy with the swap. I added $2 convex stick ons. Works great.

I'm also a Jeep convert. Needed something reliable. Had a 2014 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk. Still have my modified 1993 Jeep Wrangler. It's not stock.

Another Jeep convert up in Seattle. Trading my '16 JKUR for a '18 TRD ORP in a couple weeks. Wanted a solid overland rig, not into the heavy wheeling anymore. Looking forward to a better ride quality and confidence in the long term durability. This will be my first IFS 4x4, so I'm guessing that will take some getting used to on harder trails.

I’m another Jeep convert down in San Antonio. We traded the JKU MOAB in on a Porsche Macan Turbo. We love the Porsche, but really missed the ruggedness of the Jeep. So this weekend, we traded in our other vehicle on an ‘18 4Runner TRD Off-road Premium. Absolutely love it! Between both vehicles, every itch is scratched!

I’m also from the jeep world, I had a mildly done 96 xj and a 2006 lj, miss some aspects of the lj like 6pd manual trans but love the amount of room and comfort in my runner for hauling the family around.

Picked up a 2017 SR5 premium a few months back and have been happy so far. The JKU was ok...the doors off fun factor was there but shrinking each year due to hauling kids and their stuff around. I was constantly thinking if we took the JKU without doors that the stuff would just be taken right out of it. So we would take the doors off, drive to get ice cream with the kids, then home...once a month. I am done modifying for now, probably just KO2 tires for dirt roads, which is the extent of my off road now. Happy for the Toyota reliability as well...the JKU spent 15 days in the shop in total for warranty...first 12 within the first 3k miles.

I don’t know about dweh54, but we had axle issues and transmission issues that we had to have covered under warranty. We didn’t beat on it a whole lot, my wife was the primary driver.
