Jeep Convert

Welcome! Just moved over from jeeps myself. 20 + years of tinkering with YJs, CJs and most recently an LJ but got tired of the beat down that taking them over any real distance on the road became.

On trips to Belize and a Guatemala last year I noticed that Toyota’s and nissans rule the day down there while getting parts for jeeps is so hard that I had to run a windshield wiper motor to Antigua because he can’t get any jeep parts in Guatemala. Loving my new to me 99 3rd gen. Planning to do the drive down the Pan American highway some day soon in this.

I had a 2004 TJ that I bought used and stock and built into a pretty capable rock crawler 4.5" lift, 35's F&R lockers, cage.... yadda yadda yadda.

Always wanted that as a kid. Did most of the "black diamond" or "five star" trails in So Cal.

Decided I didn't like it that much. Family and I don't really enjoy getting bumped and rocked and knocked around. Never rolled or anything but scared myself several times. And once it was all built up for rock crawling, it pretty much sucked every where else.

The new Runner is way more comfortable and enjoyable to drive. I will do a few mods but I know even stock it will handle all the trails I care to throw at it.

Had a couple of 4Runners several years ago, strayed away to an Acura RDX and then a 16 Jeep Grand Cherokee. For the last 2 years, regretted not going back the the 4Runner. Tomorrow the Jeep gets traded in and I’m finally coming home... 4Runner ORP. There will be balance in the universe again!

Almost a convert myself! I have a 2008 JK X two-door. Just bought a ‘99 4Runner Limited that will eventually be its replacement. Just working on the final few payments now and it’ll be goodbye JK and hello T4R (as the DD)!!
