I will agree the Wrangler is a great off road vehicle. On road? Not so much, and I rode in a 2012 4 door 3 1/2 hours on the interstate late last year. There is not much compromise with them. It does give you a manly image and a shot of self esteem though lol.

Agreed. I owned a '91 Wrangler, drove it from Alaska to Montana, and then through college in Washington. They're purpose built vehicles - and the purpose is off-road, not on... virtually no compromise. In the 20+ years since I had one, almost nothing has changed about them save a few bells and whistles, engines/gears to keep up with the times, and the price - which I think is egregious.

They have a purpose and place they excel, but most owners buy them for the look, not the function. In all cases, its fun to watch owners (and passengers) try to get into/out of them.

Nothing more nothing less. I dated a girl that drove a porsche but I know nothing about them beyond the fact that I can't afford a $100k vehicle

Same here, but as has been said the U.S. is apparently behind the curve on the fuel technology so we could see finer examples in Europe. I've also yet to listen to one idling at a light or accelerating away from same that didn't sound like it needed some serious valve adjustments. But it's the nature of the beast. I think people see a certain "cool" factor in owning/ driving diesels. Like the guy in the hot car with the loud pipes roaring down the road. There's a certain " look at me" factor. Having worked in a blue collar field for over 40 years I've had many a co-worker who had to have the biggest loudest diesel around.( diesels seem to be a blue collar thing)
That said, times have changed a bit and we've matured(some of us). Live and let live and all that stuff. But, there's nothing quite like being out alone in the woods doing a little wheeling to a fav spot when a loud diesel truck comes along and just rips thru any tranquility that was there. Gotta love em. Ever have one start up outside your window even up to 100 feet away on a cold morning? SWEET? NOT!

You drank the kool-aid too :beer::nono: I see. Don't try to justify to anyone what personal experience (listed in my above post) and any hard data site will tell you. Yes, your wrangler is a great off road vehicle but crap on road. Otherwise you would have never gotten a Toyota 4Runner. The Jeep GC is not a Wrangler. It is a poorly made machine with great marketing skills. Just look at the resale value dude. That is the true measure of a vehicle's reliability and durability. Price for a used vehicle is all about the demand for that vehicle and if they are cheap then there is not much demand for a reason.

Here you go - Real data. The repair frequency is per 100 vehicles.

Not just resale value...but ask each vehicle's dealership about Extended Warranty prices. THAT should tell you the whole story (in addition to resale value).

For me, there is only ONE Jeep...the Wrangler. A modern diesel + 8-speed auto + Wrangler Rubicon (SWB) = pure mastubatory heaven!!
