Jicko Build Thread ...

We could poot around Truckhaven and the SVRA. Lots to do that required 4wd and AT tires but not much else (Sliders are always handy just in case though). The Tierra Del Sol jeep trail is fun, narrows and mud hills, in the SVRA the washes and squaw peak can give people a chance to test out their 4wd a lot with little chance of body damage (unless you are truly a spaz).

Single day or overnight. Can plan on something else for Sunday when the time comes.

Finally get around to do this.

Shrockworks 2010-2015 Rock Sliders, 5th Gen

- Dimpled Thread Plates

First off, no "TE Rocker Trim" needed, I believed 2014+, SR5 and TE has the same trim. Only Limited need the "TE Rocker Trim".

Jicko,

Thanks for the photos of your sliders, as I'm considering ordering these sliders as well! I couldn't tell from your photos; how much room is there between the slider and the front mudflap? I'd be disappointed if the slider touched (or was within a hair of touching), to the point where it looked like a mistake. Any chance you have a close-up photo of that area? I just want to make sure the fitment on these is perfect before I pull the trigger on such a pricey purchase.

The textured finish looks nice from what I can see in your photos. From other photos I've seen on the board, the non-textured powdercoat looks almost glossy. Can anyone else weigh in to confirm?

It is really not that pricy, when stock running board that came with the vehicle can be sold for $350, and that the angle slider probably gonna cost a little over $500 shipped or with the thread plate a little less than $600 shipped with the current Shrockworks group buy that is closing TODAY.

$150 or $250 to upgrade to a good looking, really functional slider, that's kind of a no brainer.

It doesn't touch the front mudflap. The whole thing looks GREAT.

"textured PC" is more matte than glossy.

Here is a stock photo:

I'd be interested in meeting up, depending on when and where. Looks like it might be mid 80s in the desert on Saturday.

If you're wanting to use these to step up into the truck then get them textured. Mine are glossy and trying to step up on them when they're wet is like running on a slip and slide.

Thinking definitely Saturday, then possibly Sunday too but individuals could decide to stay or head back any time.

People from SD could meet me in Escondido, if from LA or OC or Temecula we could have a second meet-up at the 79 and S2 intersection.

Time? Well, earlier the better. Would prefer meeting in Esc at 8 and then at the S2 intersection at 9? Putting us well into the desert by 10. Have lunch in a wash somewhere... But adding an hour to those times would be ok... Especially if we spend the night.

Arrived nicely packed

Comes with more than enough hardwares, note the 1.25" "silver" bolts, there are only a couple, and they will be needed(should be reserved) for driver's side, rear mount, where you have the additional "gusset bracket"
20150418_1228511-vi.jpg

The box acts as a nice "lift" to set the slider in place. A few pieces of cut'ed up 2x4 on top of the box will get the slider in the perfect position. (Thanks trail ranger, for the tips: LINK)
20150418_1242521-vi.jpg

Driver's side, rear mount, is the trickest of the whole installation. One tips here - try to install the slider with minimal gas in the gas tank, that will help!! You would need to unbolt one side of the gas tank skid (4x bolts), and then the 1 bolt from the gas tank strap (and this is worry-some, cuz nothing will be holding the weight of the gas tank). So, I make up an adhoc support using ratchet sockets and support the bottom of the strap when I have all 5 of above said bolts off.
20150418_1509331-vi.jpg

This is how the mounted driver's side rear should look like:
20150418_1615431-vi.jpg

The upper most bolt needs the 1.25" long silver bolt. Another tips here, when you are under the car, and cannot look into the "upper" hole to align your "stick nut", a little play doh and a small mirror can make the job so much easier (sticking it 45deg to the bottom of the car's body, so that you can see straight into the upper hole).
20150418_1618011-vi.jpg

Driver's side front, the key here is to do the top 2 bolts first (screw the 3rd bolt in a few turns tho), get the slider's front/back level, tighten all other bolts before cranking down the lowest/3rd bolt for driver's side front mount. There will be a gap, and when you crank it down, it will bend the piece, and close the gap. Nothing to worry about.
20150418_1616351-vi.jpg

Now, passenger's side rear. For the lowest bolt, a tips here - there is an access hole at the inside vertical wall of the frame, open that hole, get the "stick nut" inside the frame, and come out the hole besides the lowest bolt spot (see pic before), it make aligning that lowest bolt so much easier!
20150418_1835351-vi.jpg

Passenger's side front. Set the slider in place with the 2 upper bolts, then I just drill the 3/8" hole with the slider in place. Then put a "stick nut" behind it thru the "square hole". Again, there will be some gap, so, cranking it down will close the gap. The 2nd 1.25" bolt should be used here (my package only came with 2x 1.25" bolts).

How did you debadge the SR5 logo? Do you have a chrome exhaust tip?

I checked them out today, they "said" that they are doing 40psi.... but in reality, most of them are at 38.

I pumped them up to 44, and we'll see how they ride.

Here is what Cooper Tires told me about my AT3's. Why wouldn't you go with what the door panel says...?

The tire may say 44 psi, that is the maximum amount of air pressure the tire can hold. That is not the correct tire pressure to run based on your vehicle weight. The correct pressure is listed on the driver's door of your vehicle, not on the sidewall of the tire. Please refer to your driver's door placard on your vehicle or vehicle manual for the recommended pressure. Proper air pressure is based on the weight of your vehicle and is determined by the vehicle manufacturer, not the brand or type of tire you have. Also, never exceed the max air pressure as listed on the sidewall of the tire. Most 2014 Toyota 4Runner models require 32 psi however, if you have TRD off-road package your air pressure is different and you will have to refer to the placard. "

Between various bulb colors, and various vendors, I have selected XenonDepot ExtremeHID kit with H11 4300K Genuine Philips bulbs: H11 Xenon Conversion | XenonDepot Xtreme H11 HID Kit

Dry practice, it is good to lay everything out, wiring it up once, and convince yourself that you know how to hook everything up later:
20150401_1947001-vi.jpg

First thing you need to do is to drill an 1" hole thru the headlamp socket cover (if you are worry, OEM toyota replacement part number 8113524160 $12 each):
20150401_1941171-vi.jpg

Then you should fit the dust seal onto the socket cover (one tips, see the "blue" clip on one of the plug? remove that it will fit thru the 1" holes):
20150401_1938421-vi.jpg

After your remove the stock bulb, connect the factory plug to the mating plug of the kit's relay. And then fit the HID bulb into the projector bulb socket. (one tips, remove the black ring spacer from the HID bulb protector, and leave the cap of the protector dangling):
20150401_2128071-vi.jpg

You would have to cut off that cap:

Right side, assembled (protect loose wiring with wiring protector):

Left side, assembled:

I am looking at going with HID bulbs.
Why did you choose this vendor over this other one which is also listed all over? http://www.xenonsupply.com/toyota-4runner-hid-xenon-kit.html

Does the one you went with last longer because it's attached to the battery? What's the main difference?

How do the HID capsules perform in OEM reflector housings?

You can/should actually delete the images.....

And you can also do "multiple quote", no need to respond one post at a time and quote every image & post.

How to debadge? Dental Floss.

I do not have the chrome tip.

The driver's door of your vehicle is based on P(essenger) tires. These are LT(Light Truck) tires. They go on completely different system. Do your research. If I am running Pxxxx tires, I will go with the door's listing. If I am running LTxxxx tires, I will go with what's the according/appropriate weight for LT tires to match with 32psi of P tires, which is 44psi. 44psi for LT tires is equivalent to 32psi of P tires.

I ended up with XenonDepot, Philips 4300K bulbs. They are the OEM bulb for other vehicles which come with OEM HID lamps. Philips 4300K IS the industry OEM HID. I like that color (with about 100hrs of usage, it will be shifted to around 4700K). Only XenonDepot has that option (premium option, +$50), no one else do, not TRS, not XS, not many others. Everything else I had seen, screams aftermarket, most of the time, too "blue", IMO.

HID bulb in OEM reflector works, IMO. It's not any brighter than any other OEM HID vehicles.

I tried to sit in my "low" carrera, with the 4Runner (with HID in OEM projector) and my X5 (with OEM HID) side-by-side, they look virtually the same..... when I am head on with them or when they are behind me.

Why do you care, why are you even "looking at going with HID bulbs"? I thought you think those are all evil, illegal, babies-killing..... :playball:

Beyond Cargo Slide/Tray Installation

Life has been busy (with all those group buys.....)

Finally got a chance to install this "Beyond Cargo Slide".

I was really looking for something to mount my ARB fridge, and as I have the 3rd row seats (2015 SR5P) that I really need to use it a couple times a year, it makes any permanently installed cargo boxes, fridge trays etc.. a non-starter. This seems to be the ONLY solution for me as it can be easily remove (probably like 5-10 minutes).

So, it arrived nicely packed, and the product is surprisingly, very heavy, ~80lb! Very solid, nicely built, definitely.
20150427_1737021-vi.jpg

The first step is to take 4 of the 6 straps, thread them thru the original factory tie downs, there are different ways and directions and twists for those straps, just try it out and find the best way for each.

Here is the back corner, passenger side:
20150427_1853441-vi.jpg

After securing the slide with only the 4 straps, there is still a little "play", probably due the fact that the 3rd row seats locking mechanism has a little play. It is probably fine, but it is not as "solid" as I'd like. And I do plan on putting some weight on this slide.

So, I use the 2 remaining straps, and fish them thru from behind to the 2nd row seats' child-seat LATCH anchors (middle 2), and hook them to the rear cross member of the lower frame of the slide. Wa-la, that makes a night and day different!

2nd row left most seat, right behind the driver. The right LATCH:
20150427_1903051-vi.jpg

I slide the 2nd row seats forward to make that fishing exercise easier, and then slide and lock them rearward and hook the strap hook to the rear cross member.
20150427_1904211-vi.jpg

Both the 5th and 6th straps are in place:
20150427_1908161-vi.jpg

The 4 straps at the back holds the slide in place solidly.
20150427_1920501-vi.jpg

I can totally sit on it and it is not going anywhere! (Ok, I am nowhere near the 250lb limit.... but you get the idea)

We still have a few left in our group order, if you are interested, you can still get it via this thread: http://www.toyota-4runner.org/sale-...ket-cargo-tray-slider-*group-buy*-2015-a.html

I need to stay away and resist. lol. every time i get on and see this, I'm so tempted. haha. Must resist. Nice to have, but no concrete plan for use yet. Wanted something for my photo gears though.

I pulled the trigger on the Toyota (Southeast) P/N:00016-48011 "LED Fog Light & DRL 2in1", its not cheap, but it is really the best solution I had seen (a Fog light that is color matched to my 4300K HID). I also dig the fact that it is also a LED DRL.
