Wish I was closer!

The wife and I will be there over Valentines week!

Although the 4runner will be parked in the snow in Milwaukee.

You all are going to have a blast!

Your on the North American continent that's close enough. Just hop on a plane and rent a 4Runner out here, bam your invited just like that
 
I'll be driving to Phoenix next month from Orange County. Does anyone know a route through Joshua tree back roads? I was possibly thinking to go through these -Berdoo canyon road Old dale road Gold crown road?

Any specific trails planned?

The last several times I've gone through the back roads in JT I've used an Android app for maps. Back country navigator pro.

I'm not planning anything specific with the amount of people we're going to have, but I'm sure there will be plenty of exploring going around.

That would dump you out on the 62, so probably depends on your route to Phoenix, how much time you have to kill, and whether you're stopping in the park. Only takes a couple hours to run Old Dale->Gold Crown->62 unless you're checking out all the side roads.

I have a full day to kill with the drive really. Probaly will do a few of the stops in the park that's on the route.

That route will work ...and there others but that would be the best if going alone.
I have a backroad route all off pavement that will take you from Joshua Tree all the way to Phoenix if your serious enough. And able too do it alone as far as trail difficulty goes.

It would be a solo run through so maybe safer route is the best but I am interested to scope out a different route too.
 
Put me in as a maybe on this one. Never been to Joshua Tree and would love to go. Heard you can see plenty of stars out there at night, or the milky way, or something..

the best time for star gazing is as close to the new moon as possible, which is march 27. the full moon will be waning during this trip, still kinda bright, but will still be great for late-night landscape long exposures.
