JRWARD's StormTrooper ***2014 Build Thread***

The new wheels are a big improvement! Toyota is using the same wheels you had on the 2014 FJ and I think they are hideous.

Some how, I am emotionally attached to this truck now....I wish I had bought a white one.......what was i thinking??

DAMNU vader...........!

Love an actual graphic presentation of what my white one can look like. I've only had mine 2 weeks. So far, Weathertech bug shield and in channel window visors. My Nfab step bars are due today. Then I'll take a couple months to figure out a tire/wheel and minor lift option. I'm also considering a roof rack basket. And I'll definitely be looking into that plastidip mod.

I never thought of calling it the Stormtrooper look. LOVE it!

PS: How do I get one of those license plate frames? I'm an old school Dale Earnhardt fan. Hence the username. I was an admitted wannabe. :naughty:

1 month in, Phase 1 complete!!

Update:

Lots of rubbing on the 275/70's because I went with a negative offset wheel. Switched them out for 275/65R18 and all rubbing is gone.

Front and rear bumper trim has been plasti dipped black

Front emblem plasti dipped white

HID Conversion installed.

Now for the pics:

Did the black "mesh" perforated surface (don't know what else to call it) right behind the front emblem cause any problems plastidipping? I'm assuming you sprayed over all of it and peeled? Probably going to do mine black...

Hi,

I went to your link for hid conversion.
Did you go with
Ballast:AMP Morimoto 3five DSP?
HD Relay H11/H9/H8?
H11: 3five 5000K?

Thanks for your help and great truck you got!

Really like the white emblems. It has me rethinking my plan of using black. The silver pieces on the front and back are getting black plastidip for sure though.

Bump. Any pics on the HID install? Mainly where everything is hidden? Your truck looks amazing and I'm sure the HID conversion is going to be a HUGE help to those of us looking for a quick solution to that color and headlight setup. It could definitely be brighter.

I can't wait to see what else you do. Keep us posted.

never used dip before? spray it on, peel off the excess. couldn't be easier.

I just don't get the whole masking process of covering the black so you can do the white lettering for the back like shown above. Id rather not stencil out the lettering(sounds like a pain) but I guess that's what you need to do if you want it to look right

not at all, no masking required. literally just spray the letters with a few coats, 3 or 4 with a 7-8 min wait in between, give the last coat 5 min, then using a tooth pick, outline the letters and pull up the over spray. YOU DO NOT NEED TO MASK ANYTHING
