Front Receiver
I drive an '04 4Runner SR5 V8. It's 2WD, but I have a nice set of BF Goodrich All-Terrain K/O tires on it, and I'm wondering if I can get a front receiver in order to put a hook or winch for towing purposes. Is this possible?

Yes, it's possible. There are two ways. You can either get a receiver from other vehicles, such as 3rd Gen 4Runner or any other and modify it or you can build your own. In both cases you'll have to do some welding to fit it into the frame. I was thinking of doing it to my truck, but recently decided to go with an ARB bumper.

Okay! So would you build a custom front receiver application or would you take one that would go on a 3rd generation 4Runner and modify it? What would be the cheapest way?

Okay, cool. So I have another question, and I may sound stupid in asking it, but oh well. My V8 4Runner is 2WD, but I want a 4WD, but I don't want a full-time case. First, is it possible to change a 2WD to a 4WD, and second, if I do so, can I opt for the part-time case offered with the V6 instead of the full-time?

You can change from 2WD to 4WD, but it will be very costly, because you will have to redo all front. I wouldn't recommend to do it unless you're high quality mechanic. It actually may cost you more then to trade this vehicle and get the same year used one.
For your second question: unfortunately you can't. 4Runner have two different transmissions because of the different engines. V8 gives your more torque. Theoretically you can install V6 transfer case, but nobody will guarantee it.

Well, really the only problem I have is that when I'm in mud, one rear wheel spins while the other one stays still. Now is there some kind of locking diff I can buy that will stay locked when I want it to? That I can manually (with the flip of a switch or push of a button) turn on and off, no matter how fast/slow I'm going?

Very impressive pictures! Really pretty part of the country. We used to have a place like that here in Kentucky Red River Gorge but they finally outlawed all off road vehicles in national and preserved forest land.....It was fun while it lasted!

DON'T Let water inside the cabin! Even just a little.
