Just bought a 11 SR5. A few questions...

I've put about 50 miles on it, so I'm still learning its pros and cons.
I've had 3rd and 4th gen 4Runners in the past, and we are on our 4th Landcruiser, so I'm familiar with Toyota..
I like the way the 11 feels. More like the LC, than a gen 3, that's for sure.

However, the brakes will take a while to get used to. I guess spongy best describes it.. Any way to firm them up?

Also, it's got a third row of seating, which I have zero need for. Any way to pull those out and gain storage? Any market for them?

The previous owner put running boards on it. I don't need those either.. I guess I'll take them off and post them in the classifieds. What are they worth? It told me the PO never did any serious 4 wheeling..

Can I expect to get 20mpg? That's what the computer is telling me..

It feels funny going from brake to gas pedal, and back.. I think I'll be hitting both at once until I get used to it.. (And my 13s get a better feel) anything to do about that?

How is it pulling a trailer? Feels a lot heavier than the gen 4 felt..

One last thing.. Any "must do" modifications? Or things to watch out for? (Sorry, I'm not good at searching..)

Not sure about the brakes but the answers to all of your questions are contained within the search button above.

In light conditions 20mpg is realistic. Others have had much better and worse. Saw in the for sale/wanted used item running boards for $200. Check it out.
 
if you have utilized the search function since your last post, you probably found plenty of info on the brakes. unfortunately you just have to live with it.

you can surely take your 3rd row seating out, but I doubt you will be able to sell them. I can't just simply bolt your 3rd row seating into my SR5 that did not come that way...as is with most everything, I am sure it can be done with some fab work. I doubt there is anyone out there that wants to take that on. Anyone doing fab work is making their trucks more trail friendly, not family friendly.

I have to roll my eyes at the search crowd. Jesus man, just welcome a brother or leave it alone. It's tiresome reading it, and it HAS to be tiresome typing it. I mean really, you said you came from 3rd AND 4th gen for F-sake. One would ASSUME might have at least trolled here before. Can't someone just get straight forward answers without searching hundreds of posts?

That said, moving on.

The rumor is $200 for the running boards although I can't find anyone that wants them. I have a set behind the shed that needs a home. At the stealership I told them I didn't want them, then deducted the cost, but sent me on my way with them. They are just on all 4runners (pretty much sold by gulf states toyota) that go out around here so I doubt I'll ever get rid of them. (I also have a Trail roof rack if there are any takers. No luck there either)

20 mpg, I haven't seen it yet, but I don't do highway miles much.

I haven't pulled anything, moded brake petal, or had any problem with foot placement so no input there.

Must do mod: In my eyes the shift knobs had to go, and were replaced with Icon shift knobs. (carried over from my last 4th gen) They look and feel great, and make me so much happier than that big plastic brick.

Don't know what your intended use is, but anything more than light wheeling, skid plates and sliders. I trashed out my stock trail skids the first time out. They look rough.

Other than that, I really can't think of anything that absolutely HAS to be done for daily use.

You might be interested to know that I have a purpose in posting that link - and it's not to berate those too lazy to actually search. What it is, is to provide a better way to search the forum (as the link title SAYS).

And speaking of tiresome, so is "I searched, but .....". Really?
 
So many times though, as advanced as the search can be, you have to wade through so many threads to find specific details pertaining to specific questions if having anything to do with the subject matter at all. As many hours I have combed through these threads, even with advanced search I have had problems re-finding a thread, particularly when it is part of a larger build thread.

I'm not bagging on all instances of "learn to search". It just sometimes comes off as "FU and search" instead of "welcome new buddy, here's a tip on searching".

Frankly; though, sometimes "FU and search" DOES fit.

But honestly...when some "new guy" that claims to be an "old guy" asks a question where there are in fact TWO threads already open on the first page...with absolutely zero acknowledgment of even looking at, or reading them(towing)...how f'in lazy can you get??...cmon man, don't be an enabler....:biggrin2:

I want your running boards, but I'm in Kansas City... soon to be Chicago, and don't want to mess with shipping, etc.

I actually felt like I was the one "receiving" the rocks.. No problem.. I had already read through the trailer towing thread. Have done more searching. Got answers. All good.
I spend a lot of time on motorcycle forums, because I spend a lot of time on motorcycles. Ha. Usually when I have a relatively negative thing to say, I just don't say it..:noidea: but that's just me.
