Just bought my 17yr old son a 2005 4Runner - good choice?

we now know why you lavished your beloved son with such a fine car first or second or third!

i had no idea they had 4runners over there in germany. during my travels throughout europe, saw very few SUVs.

There are lots here now - X5s, X3s, Q6s, M class Mercs, on and on. US Military can buy new 4Runners but I don't believe that they are sold to the German public. I've got an EXOTIC! Just kidding :bash:

I bought my Son's through US Ebay and had it delivered to his house.

i picked up mine on this very forum from a great seller. the car's in awesome shape and beats the heck outta the '99 jeep cherokee 4.0 sport i had.

Found a great deal on ebay for a pristine 2005 2wd with high miles but in outstanding condition. Paid under 11k. The vehicle looks brand new.

He's taking college courses in high school and is really a son to be proud of. He is loving driving it (who wouldn't) and is planning to take his driving test soon. What are your thoughts on a 4Runner as a first vehicle?

Great choice for a first vehicle. My first was a 98 T4R 2wd. Hope he doesnt rag it like I did mine, but if he does rest assured that it will hold up and still have great resale value! Best of luck check the tires for wear the 2wd is great for power breaking burnouts.

Great to know... Not! I'm hoping that he takes better care of it than I have mine - Almost as good as my Porsche!

Haha I would chalk my abusiveness up to being a new driver with alot of testosterone. I'd say the porsche is pretty sweet.

As does any kid that age... It'll be a great first car to haul his buddies around to parties, Clambake in it, and get a bunch of underage girls pregnant... Good luck with that. He wont appreciate it as much since he didnt earn it. He'll never know what the real world is like, driving a free truck. You should give him a gas card and have the bill sent to your home... that way you can sheild him from how hard life can get.

Youch! Seems you are sterotyping all teens, not a very fair thing to do. I agree that he will not appreciate it as much as if he earned it but the rest of the issues you bring up are just plain unwarranted and angry. Did you read the whole thread?

All great points Ben and only to true.

The only exception would be for the Corvette guys. I've had several visitors to Germany that I've met up with from the Corvetteforum. Admittedly there is a significant age difference over there which I often forget.

All I know is that I've had more meaningful communication with him since I bought it than I've had over the last two years. To me, it's all been worth it and shows him that I have a lot of trust and confidence in him.

I guess I'll have to take out an add in the local newspaper warning the teen girls in the area.

The world would be a better place, if we all didnt get our panties in a bunch.

You cant make someone apologize for his life experiences. I can definitely see a teenager with a new 4R picking up chicks, chambering the sweetest taboo, and showing off for whoever wants to watch.

All we can hope is that the teenagers parents raised their teen to be a great and industrious member of society and not just another problem.

Being able to teach your kid to make the right choice will get you far in life.
