Just got my '05 SE...but it vibrates.

I have not done a lot of highway driving and will continue to monitor it. If this is due to flat spots on the tires, I would think that I would notice more in the winter months. I trade off between two cars and in some cases, it sits for a week or so at a time. I will post another follow up after I get more driving time....looks positive for now.
I'm glad that worked for you. I purchased a sport over the weekend with Dunlops and I'm pretty sure I have the same problem. The first car I drove was really really bad. The wheel was shaking bad at highway speeds. Mine isn't too bad but I do notice it at the same time (deceleration) you did. There is a lot of weight that was used to balance the tires which I thought was unusual. I'm going to make an appointment for this weekend. Do you have the details of the TSB so they don't try to give me the run around?

You might try a google search for Toyota TSBs...I found it with some research but did not keep the link.....It is probably the most recent TSB released for the 4Runner. Maybe someone on this board has quick access? I would definitely bring it to the attention of your dealer....there shouldn't be any reason they cannot do the work.

Well, I took my 4runner in on Monday, and it seems it was the tires that was causing the vibration. I'm pretty suprised, but the dealer went ahead and put on brand new tires...although I wish they had asked me before hand. They put on Michelin Cross Terrains, which I wasn't too crazy about because I do go off road, but they do ride nice.
My other problem is that I like the white lettering on the outside and these are black on both sides. I don't want to keep bitching at the dealer because I feel that they have done the right thing, but I just wish they were any other tire but those (and of course the dunlops)

Interesting....the TSB that I had done states that flat spots are normal and it is a spring mechanism that contributes to the feedback of the vibration through the steering wheel. Maybe I should have asked for some new tires too.....then again, if your dealer was aware of the TSB, would have done the fix. I am curious to see if the problem continues after the tires get some wear on them.
4th gen Vibrations...Problem fixed
I own 04 4runner with OME 3" lift. I had a intermittant problem with my steering wheel vibrating around 60mph for the past 4 months. I had my tires balanced and rotated numerous times. Come to find out there's a machine that eliminates hidden vibrations in your tires by rotating them around 50mph and applying pressure(large roller that emulates the road) to the tires so that the computer can find inperfections in the tire. The machine model number is GSP 9700. Google it by typing in the model number. It's been out for a couple of years now. Man it works!!! My car feels like glass on the freeway now
Discount Tires should carry this machine but you have to ask for it. The reason why is it can take up to 40mins to balance 4 tires. Make sure you ask for this machine, if they don't have it, walk away it's not worth the time and money. Also make sure they have a qualified technician to use it. By the way you're going to pay around $80 to get it done, considering the bug you have it's worth it.
I had Dueler REVO's 265/70/17 when my problem started, so I got rid of them because I may have put hot spots on the tires from the vibrations. I settled with BF Goodrich KO's265/70/17, love them.
