Just picked up a used BFG KM2 to use as a spare, couple questions.

I went on Craigslist yesterday and there was a guy selling his 3 used BFG KM2 285/70R17's tires for $30 each. I went and picked one up last night to use as a full size spare.

I remember at least one person T2Cruiser, he said this size tire "just" fit in the stock spare location with KDSS. I was gonna PM him but he hasn't been online here in like a month. I just want to know if it fit aired up, or if he had to have it airless in order to make it fit. I'm sure at least a few others here have upgraded their spare tires, so I am asking you that question, will it fit with or without air?

Also, I remember someone posted up some pics of a 4Runner on a dealer lot with 285/70R17 on stock wheels with no spacers, and since it was on the lot still, I doubt it had aftermarket UCA's. As far as I know the stock tires with a 285/70R17 will not work up front with the stock UCA's, is that correct?

One more question, since my Pro Comp wheels use Acorn style ET Lugs as seen below, in order to use the spare wheel, Ill have to use the stock style hub Centric Lugs, Correct?

I just want to get all the fact's straight before I have Discount Mount and Balance this tire on my stock spare wheel.

I put a BFG 275/70/17 on a stock SR5 rim into my spare location. There is room for your tire under there in diameter. I think you should be fine. Your tires are only going to be about .55 inces larger in diameter than mine...so you are talking only .25 inch closer to the back of the hitch receiver...absolutely doable! Oh, wait, I don't have KDSS though...still you are probably fine...

Yes you will have to use your stock lug nuts for your spare

I have no comment on whether it fits or not, but airing down a RADIAL tire does not really work from what i have been told. If you got ply-bias tires, then airing down can make a tire smaller in diameter.

Thanks for the pic, happy to know that it will fit, of course with it sticking down further, good chance it will drag over everything off road LOL.

I guess I only have two stock lug nuts so if anyone has some taking up space I'll take them. It's kinda funny, I realized this time around that I would need the stock lugs for the stock spare wheel, I drove a year and a half with my Tacoma and never even thought of it, good thing I never had to change a flat. :

Went to Discount Tire today and had the Tire swapped out with the original. It fits perfect down below in the stock spare location. Any bigger it would definitely hit the KDSS boots. Currently it's slightly touching the hitch and has about 3/8" clearance where the KDSS is located.

I knew I would need to use the stock hub centric lug nuts, thanks to you guys on here confirming that but decided to ask them anyway. I was basically leading up to to the question "Do you have any OEM Toyota Lug nuts that I could have since I don't have any anymore?"

They guy went to grab a ET style Acorn lug nut upstairs to see if it would work since that's what I have in my Pro Comp's, he came back said no and handed me 6 OEM Toyota lug nuts. Said I could have them. I didn't even have to bring up that question, Very COOL!!

Has anybody tried 285/70R17's on stock wheels with OEM Upper Arms? I remember people with Tacoma's would buy the FJ wheels and mount 285/70R17's which would clear the UCA's (I think) and to my knowledge, the 4Runner Trail wheels are the same width and backspacing as the FJ Wheels were (I think).

^^$9.50 a lug nut? WOW!! I made out pretty good then!

Here are a few pics, cause I know I will not be the last one to ask if a 285/70R17 fits in the stock location. It's probably the largest diameter tire that will fit down below.
