Just to make you appreciate the 3.slo

Love sammys. Trackers too. Great little platforms to build off of.

Spent last weekend in the woods with some sammys on Toyota axles. Both of these are 1.3 One has the 6.5 t case gears and a harley davidson carb that helps it go a little better. Both on YJ leaf springs with 4.10s in the axles.

For now, it is not a builder. Although, I am considering slapping some AT's and a rear locker on it for Moab in April (just in case I can go).

Just a heads up, automatic tracker front 3rds were 5.13 from the factory and will bolt right in to the sammys axle housings, but the housings of the 3rd are aluminum. But would be fine in a street vehicle.. you know.. with some 31s. Haha.

They like to do this under a lot of pressure..

No they wouldnt. The 3.0 is around 400 LBS & produces about 150 HP. correction: 145 hp
the Suzuki Sidekick motor weighs about 1/3 of that & prodices 100HP (& yes if you were wondering, it weigs less than the 22re)

No its not! you need wire harness , Motor mounts, new exhaust, Adaptor kit, etc.....

Call me silly, but maths would indicate that adding ~250lbs to the weight of a hairdresser's car in the name of roughly 50hp would improve the power to weight ratio, a lot. And as much as the three-oh isn't a torque monster, 180lb-ft has got to be much much more than the four-pots they throw in those things.
 
I have a 1990 samurai I put a 1.6 2 valve FI in it I use it for ice fishing it is amazing what it goes over when other vehicles sink I was going to put track on it but I didn't need to . great little truck I put a hard top and built behind the cab with 1in square and covered it with a alum skin. I am going to put a rear window this summer

your correct. But would you add a 500 horse Volvo/Cummings Semi motor to your 4 runner????? The weight would not be worth the Hp gain.

Your right I cant spell very well. Thats because I have Dyslexia. That said the school treated me like I was retarded & didnt bother to teach me anything! I had to teach my self. I dont know why people have to be ass holes & make fun of someone for typos. Hell your smart phones make as many mistakes with there spell correct/ guess what word Im trying to type programs.....

As for math. It is constant through out the universe. & it always works out on paper. But not always in the real world!

LOL thatoneguy your funny.... But obviously Know nothing about Samurais.. They are like 2 strokes they are a high reving, high compression motor. (my toyota's moto with 100% compression is just barley enough for a samurai to run.) Samurais have at least 190lbs when freshly built. under 140 is shot! Stock Compression ratio is 8.9:1.... you can get them to over 10,000 RPM without causing damage. (though I dont recommend it) A Performance samurai motor can be 10.1:1 & produce 100 HP...

You do the real world math. 160 ish LB Samurai motor @ 100 HP compared to 400 ish LB 3.slow & the extra 200+ LBS for the masive trans/transfer case.... & anyone with a brain can plainly see that it would not be worth doing!

You have a 8 or 16 valve? (the 8 valve is throttle body injection & the 16 is true fuel injection, better mpg, torque & HP) Exactly why you wouldnt want a heavy 3.0 or similar motor in your samurai. They can & will go anywhere because they are so small & light weight! (same for VW bugs)

1.6 8 valve 2 valve per cyl. yes the 16 valve has more peak hp but the 8 valve has more torque or feels like it has more torque and is a direct bolt in for the 1.3. quite a bit easier than a 16 valve 1.6
 
you still have to have the adaptor plate to mount it to the trans.... but the exhaust, intake/carb wiring, etc. is drop in.

1.6 8-valve
Horsepower 80 hp @ 5400 rpm
Torque 94 lb.-ft. @ 3300 rpm

1.6 16-valve
Horsepower 95 hp @ 5600 rpm
Torque 98 lb.-ft. @ 4000 rpm
 
Just to simplify, I have the 1.3 8v and other than the carb and maybe some headers at some point it is staying that way. My trip to Moab proved to me that the engine has all the power it needs. I do plan on getting lower transfer case gears to slow me down when crawling in it.

I despise that engine, makes the 3.0L feel like a V8 in my opinion... lived with that gutless wonder of a Vortec pile in my old S10 Blazer for way to damn long. Its one of the main reasons I bought the '04 4Runner with the 2UZ-FE, I swore I'd never buy another mid-sized vehicle with anything less than 8 pistons.
 
and my 92 3.0 5 speed 4runner will eat my samurai even with the bigger engine, and it will eat my brothers tracker with a built 16 valve and 6.5 reduction. although his locked up is very impressive and he will wack on it a lot more than I will my runner.
I have no power complaints with my 92 runner fresh engine I just have 235 tires on it but it will go 80 down the interstate just fine and rips compared to my 85 sr5 with 33s on it.
