I've never been happier to be back in a 4runner. Bought a 2013 land cruiser last September and was really disappointed, well maybe just uncomfortable. Sold it 10 months later and walla! bought a 2010 LE with 40k miles and had to wrap in the $6k I was upside down in the cruiser and it still cut my monthly payment in half, and not to mention it fits me and my personality so much better. Driving around seeing the people driving Land Cruisers is weird concoction of rich housewives and more rich housewives on the south side, and even weirder... Jez

I have been reading you guys for about 4 years now and finally have a rig I can show off. Only because I'm more comfortable tearing into this one. I have an OME suspension ordered and shockworks sliders coming soon. Also just ordered the flat utility baja from John. Was in stock and shipped today.

I will attempt to attach the preverbal before pic, as if you haven't seen it before. But for the record, this is a dare from the wife to post to you guys whom I admire, and to prove my modding skills! Screw the pics, ill figure it out later ...

Dude, I don't miss anything. I'm like a god from above squashing everyone's desires to own one of these beasts. Keep it cheap and spend money in making it exactly what u need. Who needs 10 mpg? Halliburton maybe

I felt the same way when I had a very nice Acura MDX. Eight months later I bought my first FJ Cruiser.
 
Depends on what you do with it... I would have missed the 5.7L if I had a LC because I would be modding my truck much like I do my 4th Gen (which is why I love my V8) but not everyone is making a heavy modded rig.

What exactly didn't you like about the LC beside the obvious rich housewives clique they seem to attract?
 
I'm 5'7". LC was enormous for my stature. Add to that the heavy steering and breaking (honestly I didn't realize THT much until I "down graded"). It was a job to drive. Can't really explain but now that I'm driving my 2010, it it so comfortable and, well feels natural again.

I mean of course it was my decision to buy the LC to begin w, but I never thought I would feel so uncomfortable in a ride to drive. But back to me modding the hell out of this beast. It was a certified per owned. So it came w the 7 yr 100,000 mile warranty. I just took it or Sterling McCall Toyota and asked for the headlight to be replaced because of the Toyota repair update I found in another's post.

They would not let me 'upgrade to' a te light housing. Yes I covet those with smoked lenses. I'm a sinner.

Welcome! I understand the appeal of a truck you can feel more comfortable using and modding, but if you think the LC seemed big, wait til you lift that 4runner and put 33s on it. It makes a stepping into a LC200 seem like getting into a mini van.
 
I haven't taken Land Cruisers seriously since they discontinued the 80 Series.

If they ever sold the 70 Series in the US, I might change my mind.

Who in their right damn mind would go off road in an 80 thousand dollar vehicle with low profile tires, that has nicer furniture and weighs more than most houses.

It's a joke, glad you don't miss it.
 
I have driven both and you must have had a screwed up LC they are comfortable and very easy to drive.... that said there is no way in hell I would spend that much for a vehicle.... I had hard enough time spending $35k on my 4runner. Taking a $6k hit for a lower monthly payment just tells me you purchased way outside your comfort zone or you have more money than you know what to do with.

It's a depreciating asset. He's going to take that $6k hit now or later anyway. If you don't love it given the price better to take the hit now and move on because at the end of the day he will be out far less overall money on the runner even with the $6k hit. Ive dumped way too much money over the years into car payments and at the end of the day they are all loosers because the return on investment sucks so if you dont love it your better off going cheaper if possible. Just my opinion mind you.

On another note:

Granjour, I have been there done that. Don't want to do it again. But I don't regret changing vehicles because I ended up with one that I kept for 15 years. Hope you enjoy your "new" 4R.

I've driven a few Land Cruisers at work and have not been impressed. I mean they are nice, but if you look at their history it just does not fit. They get traded into our Land Rover dealership a lot..

If you have a payment on the depreciable asset then either way that $6k is gone. The point I'm making is what will it cost him in that LC in payments, gas and depreciation to keep it to avoid the upfront $6k payment/loss?

I bet if you do the math and spread it over a couple of years of ownership, it will be cheaper with the 4runner once you factor in the difference in payments,, the depreciation and the cost of fuel due to MPG differences. Also, it will be lower monthly cash flow and his situation could have changed to ake that important.

I prefer to fish rather than debate. Though with fishing you always have to start at the bottom...so I started with baiting the fish hooks of the Master Fishers. I asked them one day when I could move over to fishing and they replied when I became a Master Baiter.
