KDSS and Lifts

Talked to my off road guy (Attitude Performance) and he is a distributor for Icon. He says I will lose KDSS if I go with a lift because the new shocks dont accept the hydraulic lines KDSS needs. He said Icon says to clear the lines out and tie them up to the frame.
True? He says he hasnt seen KDSS on the 4 runner, but thats what hes had to do with other vehicles.
Also, he says he really likes Icon's UCAs, but here in the midwest he says the salt on the roads in the winter just eats up the plastic joints or whatever he called them. He says abt once a year or every other year they have to be taken out and the plastic rings or whatever need to be replaced and pressed back in and realigned....
what have you guys seen?


Edit.....I just looked at Icon's site and their kits say they work with KDSS equipped vehicles. Not sure if they mean "it works" like as in tying up the hydrualics, or "it works" as in it really works.

I may be wrong but I think he may be talking about XREAS not KDSS. XREAS has hydro lines to each shock were KDSS only has lines going to a hydro cylinder on the front and aft swaybar. XREAS is on the Limited only and KDSS is only on the Trail.

He's thinking of XREAS which has hydraulic lines attached to the shocks and do need to be removed for aftermarket suspensions.Xreas is only on the 5th Gen Limiteds and 4th Gen Sports and Limiteds.
Plenty on here with TE/KDSS and aftermarket lifted suspensions including Icon on here with no problems and I personally did a Toytec Ultimate without disconnecting the hydraulic lines.You don't want anybody to touch any of the hydraulics for the KDSS though .

You can get the Icons with IVD coating, a high salt resistant coating. No idea what Icon plastic joints and rings he's talking about. What kind does he want to sell you then that he thinks will hold up better?

My advice is to find somebody else that knows Toyota's and what they are talking about.

There's no hydraulics connected to the shocks for the KDSS. KDSS is part of the stabilizer/swaybar system. Your guy is probably thinking of XREAS on the Limited which does have hydraulic components to the shocks.

The KDSS cylinders are hydraulically actuated and tied together (front and rear), like STLDAVE said, just no hydraulics tied into the actual shocks themselves.

Im sure he was thinking xreas or whatever thats called.
We dont see a lot of lifted 4 runners around here but hes very good.
Hes lifted my h3 and 2 different H1s of mine. Most of what he sees are jeeps I think.
Once he sees the parts theyre all about the same.
Hes not trying to sell me anything per se.... He is a distributor for Icon though.

Lemme ask....with Icons extended shocks and UCAs which provide a lot of movement, is KDSS necessary or even helpful at that point?

Yes; the KDSS helps with on-road cornering/handling as well, which the upgraded suspension benefits won't entirey replace.

If it makes you feel any more comfortable, in addition to all these responses I just dropped a couple grand with Demello today getting my KDSS equipped 2012 TE setup for an Icon w/UCA install. Not only my typing talking; my wallet too.
