Thanks for the detailed response Jetboy. But I wouldn't even consider trying it myself. The KDSS is some magic system that can only be filled with unicorn tears.

It looks sorta squish faced like the Tundras... Glad you're okay though. I think the SST is nothing more than a simple pressurizing/bleeding tool, so it might not be too hard to make your own.

i told them to have at it and fix it how they think it should be fixed. they're adamant they know what they're talking about. if its not right it will keep going to the shop till they replace the whole system. by then i should be in the position to remove it and sell it and go to anti rocks
Yes that's been my experience with this very complicated KDSS system, people on this forum will tell you it's so easy,just run down to Toyota and just do it but in reality it's very difficult to get done if you don't have the connections or great mechanical ability. And this is only going to get worse as time goes on and then after they discontinue the system there will be less and less people who even know what it is let alone how to work on it. there's one particular fanboy of these KDSS that continually runs around and tells everybody how easy it is to do but it's really not .
Note : It's not very easy to remove, the warning lights will be on there's no sway bars on the vehicle you will void your warranty and will be unsafe to drive.
again it gets very complicated to remove correctly.

I don't see why they would not offer it. True, very few shops can work on it. Why? Because they very seldom need to work on it! Nobody has the tools or knowledge because they don't need the tools or knowledge! No demand = no supply. Contrary to a previous post it is a fairly simple concept and circuit with very few parts. Your brake system is a much more complicated hydraulic circuit than KDSS. He is right about removing it though. No swaybars unless you change out LCA's and get another swaybar. Also KDSS is speed sensitive which means it hooks into your control circuit. You will get lights that you cannot get rid of. [MENTION=74569]SOcalTRAIL[/MENTION] (he removed his) and I worked on a solution for some time and at the EOTD he opted to go with black tape over the light as the solution was complex and time consuming.
Sure, you can beef up the front suspension to a point of not needing swaybars but then your 4Runner will ride like a class VI short dump truck with no load.
There is no real field percentage of failures on the KDSS system that I can share.
Toyota tries to avoid selling this system in the Northeast or Rust Belt states for obvious reasons. Toyota and rust have a long history not a good one this system is very susceptible to rust. That's all I can say. The system is very heavy and will be discontinued shortly. It's tied in with the electrical system and cannot be easily removed. It's used on very very few Toyota models that are only built in Japan. There are many more modern ways to achieve better results in a lighter weight package using electronics I'm just not sure when this transition will take place. KDSS is a simple system in theory when left completely stock, not exposed to any salt elements or damage or lift kits. But adding in any of those events and an untrained technician equal problems a large percentage of the time. Also note Toyota does not offer this system in their true off-road models such as the TRD pro any FJ cruiser Why ? Because the system does not like heat from the increased stroke it does not like lift kits or longer travel. it limits ground clearance and is vulnerable off-road .
Only time will tell this story , at least now some can't say you weren't warned or you didn't know, you just didn't believe.

can't you just loop the electronic signal? being that its just opening and closing a valve i can't imagine it would be that difficult
or even easier, just remove all he lines and pistons and run them in a loop like [MENTION=89562]bimrunner[/MENTION] did for his rear system. just fool the system into thinking its working

You basically get two options; rotory actuator in the middle of the bar or linear actuator on one of the mounts. Toyota's uses both in various situations. For example there's an electronic actuated active stabilizer bar in the GS since at least '05. BMW uses hydraulic rotory actuators in some and electric in other models. Not sure what the reasoning for deciding on one or another is. If it was preferable in this application I'm not sure why it wouldn't have migrated to other models.
I can see some advantages in terms of flexibility in locating and such. OTOH I'm not sure they are capable of offroad use. My guess is the electric actuators would overheat quickly in a long mogul set and ultimately fail.

I never had KDSS. LE has the other system... Far easier to remove. I think the only other one to remove the KDSS for LT was [MENTION=77684]WarnerD9[/MENTION]. The front beefed up with 700lb springs still rides better than stock :clap2:. Wish I was around when you came through. I'd have let you drive it so you had an idea of what it is like.
