KDSS on an SR5

I bought my SR5P before I joined the forum and didn't realize that the trail also came with a premium package :frusty:

After doing more research the wrong way, after buying, the only thing I might really miss from the trail would be the KDSS. I don't wheel, never claimed to but I do hit some rutted dirt roads every now and then as well as hopping medians when traffic is backed up. I drive a pavement princess.

I've read threads where KDSS was preferred to after market suspensions and I probably will be doing a lift when funds are available, but I have not seen anyone upgrade an SR5 to KDSS. Also, I can't find a parts manual for a 2015 sr5 vs trail to price out the parts. The closest I can find was the 2010 SR5 parts manual that harper7 posted.

With my luck, I probably missed the thread where someone did this and I'll get burned pretty good. Oh well.

It requires an ECU for the KDSS and that probably connects to the main ECU via some buss that may or may not be in place.

Honestly, if you are just doing on road, some fat swaybars will give you the exact same effect on road. KDSS gives you fat swaybars that automatically "disconnect" when the vehicle determines that full articulation is required.

Anything CAN be done, given enough money. However, the juice isn't worth the squeeze in this case.

Putting KDSS on a vehicle that did not come with it would be ridiculous, not to mention nearly impossible and outrageously expensive ( I would guess 10k in parts) . It's really nothing special at all to begin with... you would be much better off putting on some type of dynamic dampening shocks like magnetic ride control (but that would also be pretty crazy).

Overall, your best bet is just some good shocks with manually adjustable rebound and compression dampening to get your ideal ride characteristics. ICON offers something adjustable on thier remote resi stuff, but I'm sure there are others options on the market.

Watch out for mod fever, it gets all of us. I bought a few items before my Trail was delivered.

Take it out on a few trails, you may be surprised on how well it does stock, even on OEM tires. Then decide if you need to make mods.
Maybe AT tires and Bilstein 5100s for a start.
