Hello everyone! Me and a buddy were tinkering around one day, and we came up with a pretty cool idea. We've asked around a little bit and gotten some good feedback on it so we decided to sell a few. They're Key-Knifes. We can do any type of car key/motorcycle key/house key in a small switchblade. These are $49.99. If you're interested or have any questions please email me at [email protected]

Also guys. Were currently have blue, silver, and red knives. Were talking to a local powder coating company however, about powder coating the handle of the Key-Knife. So if thats something that may interest you (various colors) let me know. It will be an additional $3.50 to have your key Powder Coated any color other then the ones listed. So now you can get it to match your truck!

Thats pretty sweet! I have a switchblade key I bought off ebay for like 65 back in 09 but still havent gotten it programmed! Without the chip programmed it simply unlocks my truck and turns the battery on!

Are this programmable? What is the open/close operation? one handed? spring? I really like this idea!

Thanks for emailing me. If anyone has questions i check that more then 4runner.org. Im new to the site, but if any of y'all are members I also posted a thread on Knife Key - YotaTech Forums where im an active member.

They're a push button spring, out the side. You can also close it halfway if you want the handle facing down.

Thanks for showing the interest! We are spam-posting on sites, but i'm the proud owner of a '99 4runner SR5 and an active member on Yotatech.com so toyota truck sites i try to stay active. I just joined toyota-4runner.org though, because alot of guys cross thread between the sites.

Yes, we can do a chipped key. I have one for my '99 4runner, and if you purchase it, we'll include instructions for how to program it. Were currently making a website for our business now. As soon as the site is up, i'll post a link, and definitely keep active on this thread. I regularly check my email, so if you have any questions let me know.

Kyle, I thought you have to get a chipped key programmed by the dealer or locksmith because they require a little computer thingy. My dealer charges i think 80-120 for programming the key alone and that has kept me from getting my flip-key programmed.

Has something changed? Can we program a chipped key ourselves now? I would buy at least 1 of these if I didnt have to spend another 80+ to have it turn on my truck!

Your picture is a 4th gen 4runner correct? You have to have an I-tool or the scanner to do it :/
It only takes a dealer a few minutes to do it though, so maybe if you go in to get other work done they won't charge you for it?
If you have a pre-1998 4runner though there is instructions for it. I have the HYKO key listing, and it varies for different vehicles. Older vehicles you can program it yourself. With all the on-board computers in vehicles now though, it's getting harder for people to do things ourselves.

Regardless blank keys and transponders that aren't programmed go from 15-60 bucks each. And thats without having it in a cool knife. :thumb3:

thats what I thought. My toyota guy has been good about freebies and things but he charged me full price when I got a second master cut, it was 80-120, i forget, but a large amount. I even asked him about the flip-key but that was right after I bought the car so probably worth asking again If i find a cheap way to get it programmed i'll buy 2

I saw on yotanation that you were originally thinking of having people send their key in first and you'd use that. Would that eliminate the need to get it programmed? If so, you might want to consider bringing that back, at least as an option. Then people could either send a key and receive a programmed one or send nothing and go have it cut and programmed when they get it

You can get the key cut at a locksmith for ALOT cheaper. Its getting it programmed thats more costly. And ill keep researching it. Where theres a will theres a way!

And yes in theory it would. We haven't done one of those yet though. Like when i got my 4runner, i got 3 keys with it. 1 valet, and 2 full keys. If you sent in one key we could do it. We'd have to take it apart, and cut the head of the key though but the transponder would still be programmed for your car so it would still work. People just didn't like the idea of having there key shipped and then cut. But it's definitely still an option if it better suits you.

Like i've said, were just starting so any opinions, ideas, or suggestions are much appreciated. We want this to be as legit and professional as possible.

I know you're tossing around the 2-key idea too in the future and I'm sure you've thought of it but maybe make it the way that each opens from opposite ends? Might be easier to work out the flip out/in functionality but not sure where you'd throw the transponder for the car key.

Well if people would rather send one in, especially if they have 2 sets, then by all means we can do that! Nothing of ours is set in stone yet, we're experimenting with ideas now.

Thats an idea! Have it from different ends. The only problem is we'd have to redo the entire bad cause its no where near big enough to fit 2. But we'll certainly start brainstorming. Our goal is to sell at least a dozen, before we go any further in to different models and types so we have a solid foundation to work on.

I just today got my ebay chipped keys (two for $15). Got to have a locksmith cut them then do the open-driver-door-and-close seven times trick to get them listed with the computer.
