We are back. with a change of ownership, a change of countries, and a redesigned product. Shawn the previous owner had stopped production. I had the competitors top and wasn't happy. Long story short I bought the company. Shawn came to sunny Florida for a week to show me exactly what and how he did things. I asked previous buyers of KTT what they would like to see in the future and how I could make this product better. I took there advice and redesigned the top, frame and all. What we offer now is an improvement of a great top. We also are in the works to offer add on's to your existing tops, like screen sides for those who camp in their 4Runner. And thats just the start of things. I you have a wish for something let us know. Thanks for reading all of this and hope to hear from you.

im not trying to be mean or start a fued but your way high for price
Softopper | Soft Top Truck Caps and Canvas Camper Shell Tops has the full cover with no charge for full length side windows and 70$ extra for a rear screen Total with shipping is $853.95.

Your price is $1,095 shipped. with full side windows and back screen

what are you claiming for the bigger price?
Is your product better?
what kind of warranty do you offer?

i just want to get the facts before anyone orders any soft top, it is nice to have other company's to buy from but when your choices are 200$ different you tend to go with a cheaper item or from the company that's been around longer.

Good Question

First of all I've owned the competitors top. We make a better top. It's made from higher quality fabric. Our sides are completely removable, you will not have a big bulge sticking out from rolling them up. Plus we offer a huge array of options, different colors, solid sides, sides with windows, screen sides for those who camp in their 4Runner. Our frame work is made to take the abuse, on and off road. You'll find all kinds of opinions on forums. But if you ask someone who has bought one of our tops if it was worth it, the answer will be yes. If you have any questions feel free to call me 812-292-0815. Will you be able to call the owner of the other company if you have an issue? I hope this explains a few things. And feel free to call me with any questions.

I spoke with him about buying this company but it never panned out for us. 3 major issues I had with this top.

1) where the top is velcroed to the cab works for about 3 months. then you have to figure out how to glue it back down. I hope you fixed this..

2) where the poles attached to each other and have screws locking them in place wear through the top. Plus where some of the poles connect i had to file down in order for the sharp edges not to cut into my top.

3) the rear window used velcro to hold it in.. this was a BIG POS design. I had to pay a local canvas company to add zippers on the top and sides. For the bottom they added a sleeve with some rare earth magnets to hold it to the top of the tail gate. if not for the sleeve it would constantly soak the carpet near the rear of the tailgate.

Other than these issues that I fixed I loved the top.

KidV,

those rare earth magnets were nasty!!! I live in a huge boating community and that is what they use for doors and latches.. They work well. We padded the sleeve up and boom right on the back of the tailgate..

Can you elaborate on those mythical earth magnets? What exactly are they? I have a softopper and I don't like velcro that I have to use on the bottom of the back window. I would like to get rid of that velcro and use one of these rare earth magnets. But if I go into a store and ask for a rare earth magnet, are they going to know what I'm talking about?

The term "rare earth" can be misleading as these metals are not particularly rare or precious; they are about as abundant as tin or lead.

My canvas shop had them and its what he suggested. He put two of them together and I could barely get them apart.

I mentioned doing this to KKT but dont think he ever did anything with it.. My KKT had a piece that mounted to the tailgate via the existing screw.. It was crap. So I had this done. Then when I unzipped the back window it just hung down on the tailgate.

good ideas

I have spoken to many people who own these tops. I am always looking to make these tops the BEST.
The back window is a pos design. But our tops are made to use the glass back window. the vinyl one we sell is ment to use off road at low speed. That way you wont break your glass window.
You are the first to tell me about issues with the cab rail velcro. I use velcro and snaps on the cab rail.
As far as the poles and screws...that wont happen anymore. new owner new ways of doing things.

I got to check out the new top that you sent Wabbit while I was down at Wabfab over the weekend. All that I can say is that I will definitely have me one of these once I have a few other things taken care of on my 88, and the bank account allows it. Seeing it in person really helped me make up my mind.

Im still not sold, the cost and then hearing that it uses Velcro tells me that it is low quality and high cost. i hope you can turn that around in the future.
thats what sucks about buying a company that has been around is the old problems you may have fixed are still going to hurt sales. it sucks but its life.

i wish you luck but for personal use ill wait a while until you get more made and all the bugs worked out.

what i don't understand is how you can buy a full soft top high quality for a jeep cj8 for 400$ and its about the same length as a 4runner rear section but to get one for the 4runner you need to spend damn near a grand.

I am not sure if its the climate I live in but I def had issues.. Mine was only velcro no snaps. Also when I got mine there was no mention of the vinyl rear window only being for low speed..

I sold mine a while ago but will be looking at getting another one now that you guys are back.

BV,

I never had an issue with the top leaking anywhere there was velcro. The only Issue i had was the velcro peeling off. It sounds like to me they have this fixed. It looked like mine was only glued down.

Any way.. my top was nice and I liked it way better than the softopper my friends have.. and so did they..

Cant please everyone

Bad Vision,
Sorry that you can't see the value in my tops.
I do have a competitors top for sale if you want cheap but usable.
pm me for more info.

I love what I do and the price is fair. the price has not went up in years.
You have choice's and that's a good thing.

i have never seen your tops only hear say, i do need to buy one next spring do you have a satisfaction guarantee?

Here's what I can do for you.
Come to my location. I will install a top(black) on your Runner and if you don't like it I'll take it back off.

I don't know exactly how the KTT back vinyl windows work, but my softopper window has seen speeds up to 85mph with no issues of wind noise, top flapping around or the back window coming off or even coming loose.

If the KTT top back window is as good as the softopper, I don't see any issues.

What really attracts me to the KTT tops is that the sides come off completely. That is a HUGE plus! I will eventually take my top to a marine upholstery shop and have them modify my top if I cannot do it myself.

What turns me away from the KTT tops is the fact that you cannot unfold the top like you can with the softopper. My top folds down and tucks away in a bag in about 30 seconds if I want it to because the frame for the top tucks away with the top itself. I am not sure if the KTT tops can do that because of the frame work it has. Any input ktt? I also like how many different options you have for your system. You can do cab partitions, removeable sides, use stock rear window if wanted, etc. You have a lot of good options going for your product.

I would definitely think it would be beneficial for you to get more pictures of all the different configurations put up on your website that will truly show how universal your soft top is.

Good job on building an awesome top! I also like the fact that you're working for yourself here. I would rather support the local mom and pop shops over a big business any day.
