What I'd look for in a soft top: I want it heavy canvas, not vinyl. I like the option of window screens. I don't like the snaps across the bedrails, I replace several a year. I want it configurable - I want to go from completely collapsed to completely set up to sides rolled up (or removed) in minutes. I want the rear window slanted at 50-60 degrees. And I want it burly enough to support a roof rack.

Right now my old Kayline supports most but not all of those options, and is drafty as heck. I can make what I want myself, in my spare time , but if there was a commercial offering that had ALL of the above under $800, that would have my attention for sure.

I don't know exactly how the KTT back vinyl windows work, but my softopper window has seen speeds up to 85mph with no issues of wind noise, top flapping around or the back window coming off or even coming loose.

If the KTT top back window is as good as the softopper, I don't see any issues.

What really attracts me to the KTT tops is that the sides come off completely. That is a HUGE plus! I will eventually take my top to a marine upholstery shop and have them modify my top if I cannot do it myself.

What turns me away from the KTT tops is the fact that you cannot unfold the top like you can with the softopper. My top folds down and tucks away in a bag in about 30 seconds if I want it to because the frame for the top tucks away with the top itself. I am not sure if the KTT tops can do that because of the frame work it has. Any input ktt? I also like how many different options you have for your system. You can do cab partitions, removeable sides, use stock rear window if wanted, etc. You have a lot of good options going for your product.

I would definitely think it would be beneficial for you to get more pictures of all the different configurations put up on your website that will truly show how universal your soft top is.

Good job on building an awesome top! I also like the fact that you're working for yourself here. I would rather support the local mom and pop shops over a big business any day.

With our top you can use your factory glass window. no need for a vinyl back window.
The top and sides come off in about 2 minutes. the frame takes another couple.

I have one of the original tops from Shawn. (I happy to also now call him a friend) When I bought mine from him it was still an "in progress". He has help me over the years to improve the top. the back window "snap rail" was junk, we just added a 1" flat alum bar and some "L" brackets to the factory screws to the top of the gate with Velcro. I drive this on the freeway at 65+ with no side or back. The top flapped badly! Shawn designed a new top for me with side hold-downs and straps. Worked good. But I still didn't like the minor flapping of the edges of the top so I use the remaining 1" flat stock put some Velcro on it and just connect it to the edge of the top and no more flapping. (works good for me) I also don't ever use the glass back window. ever. just the back that Shawn built. I also have the divider. works good also. I have had to re-glue the edge of the Velcro on the side of the cab. no biggie..
The only issue I have is the top must be cleaned approx. every 6 months and I STRONGLY SUGGEST USING 303 PROTECTANT TO SEAL THE TOP FROM THE RAIN. I have been in contact with the new owners just after they purchased the company, and sent them a diagram of what I think needed to be added to avoid the "raining in the truck".. The spacing of the straps and bars let the rain puddle on the top, allowing water to seep into the back. Using the 303 I was able to stop most of the issue, but when it is going to rain. I just add some supports to keep the top from drooping down and allowing a puddle to form.
I abuse my top and the Sunbrella material is good shit. I've even dragged limbs and branches across the side windows and not one puncture! (Thankfully)!!

Old Thread Alert

Does anyone have a picture of a KTT with a roof rack installed? Ideally a long low profile (not basket) one? I know SoftTopper cannot support any weight, so KTT is the best option. And the new Can Back ones will probably take years to make it to 4Runner production and cost 2x a KTT.
