King shocks update!

who has done the extended travel option for the front kit? if i understand correctly, this is the same part number 25001-278(A) but without the lower shaft spacer? the only place i found available to order that way is through filthy motorsports.

I went with extended travel. Ordered through Filthy.

I’m about to order soon...
is the consensus for 2” rear lift to go w extended travel shocks?

I went with 1.5" in the rear.

I went with dobinsons 2” rear lift. Small rake until I added rear bumper. Came out perfectly level with rear bumper and front preload at 6 threads. Pictures show before bumper and after.

Right but what shocks for the rear? Extended or just regular for 2” of lift?

That's my hold up currently, I know you don't want to pre load the front much more than 7 or so, but I reallly want the variable spring rate 3" rears from dobinson, but I don't think you can get the frontbhigh enough...

650lb guys how much pre-load/tread count are you running. My kings are suppose to ship next week. Would like to gauge how much pre-load to get 2.5 of lift.

I went extended travel with the 3" ICON Overland coils to carry the rear bumper + spare tire..

Personally, I'd go extended travel for anything 2" and above not because you have to, but rather why not. All it gives is more downtravel (by removing an internal spacer) and your coils are long enough to not worry about them falling off

I did, all 4 corners from @TotalAutomotivePerformance
They did take a few weeks to come in from KING

For those of you with the adjusters. How many clicks from full soft are you running on the street? Front and rear? And how soft are you running them when going on mild offroad trails? I know there are a lot of factors at play such as cargo weight and such. Just trying to get a general setting that everyone is at.

Rears: about 17 clicks from full soft.. mainly to get proper rebound damping to match the ICON 3" Overland coils with the SSO rear bumper/ spare tire weight..

Front: 4 clicks (I have the extended travel w/ ̶7̶5̶0̶ 650lb coils) mainly to match the rear damping. I do have a 2nd battery setup, but not really much weight otherwise. If I go softer the front end tends to be jellyish

So you set your rear rebound adjusters to be stiffer than the front?

I did something like that, and my rear seat passengers complained alot.

Now I have them set at full soft all the way around for city driving.

Do you use different settings for on and off road? If so what settings do you use, and why.

thanks.

wow.

I've never had a passenger complain about the ride in any of my vehicles.

And I used to drive a baby blue k-car wagon

Lol...that's what I'm saying. Front seat passengers love it but the rear passengers hated it when I had the adjusters set to 12 in rear and no weight

I can't wait to order mine. Just trying to save the cash vs using the credit card. But any rate. Where is everyone buying their Kings? What springs are you running? Are you buying the "kit" or are you putting it together yourself?

Probably plenty of vendors out there, but I'd order through filthy motorsports to support their customer service - their YouTube videos are very informative.

Yes the rear had to be turned up after several rounds of road testing.

It's because of all that heavy constant weight I have at the rear (steel bumper, hanging spare tire, Jerry cans)

overall the ride is very smooth, plush and the vehicle finally feels balanced front to rear.

I didn't find the need to mess with the settings for offroad. However when fully loaded with camp gear and the fridge, I do crank the rears 1 or 2 clicks to keep her steady!

good to know. When I ran drawers and fridge, I had my rears cranked up to 12's and when I took all that crap out, I forgot to dial it down, hence why people who sat in the back were uncomfortable. Now, I'm lazy so I leave it at full soft around town. I crank it up when I go offroad, is because I air down my tires (thats to keep me sane when I drive over washboard service roads).

I've never really dialed down the suspension to a setting that i liked (its either squishy or stiff, but no in between) due to my laziness, and I bug others about their settings lol.

thanks for the info though.

Any idea when the best time to buy them?

I just placed my order from them. There is no best time to buy. I waited months for Black Friday/Cyber Monday and didn’t find deals on Kings from anyone that was good enough to overlook the crazy amount of support and customer service from Filthy. They have pretty good pricing as it is and they don’t do sales.

Does filthy give you diff drops?

you should ask them specifically. I'm sure they can assemble a "kit" for you.

I ordered from toytec because they offered a full "kit" that included extended bumpstops, skidplate drop, diff drop, UCA's, etc.

Looking back I'm not sure how helpful the diff drop spacer is. While I have them installed on my truck, many people have done fine without the diff drop spacer.

Skidplate drop was a waste of money for me. If you go aftermarket skidplates, there usually is enough clearance behind the skidplate to not need a skidplate drop, and the skidplate drop may not be compatible with aftermarket skidplates that integrate multiple skidplates (front, TC, transmission skids).

You probably wont find many discounts on King's products. I think I got a small discount for pre-ordering the KDSS version w/ the adjusters before it hit the market, and saved on shipping but keep in mind, its still a LOT of money. You are better off going with a reputable retailer than trying to save a few dollars.
