King shocks update!

I've adjusted my Radflos while they were installed, no spring compressor needed. Jack up the front so the wheel(s) is(are) off the ground and the springs don't have the vehicle's weight on them. Then just get in there with the spanner wrench, lower the vehicle to check height, and repeat if necessary until it's where you want it to be.

If they're not installed, you would either need some way to hold the coilover while you adjust it, or use a spring compressor so the adjusting collar can spin freely. If they're pretty close to where you want it though, it's just easier to fine-tune while they're on the vehicle, and then you can instantly see how it looks.

Cant with kings due to the resi fitting in the way. nor is it recommended. cross threading the shock body and twisting the top cap loose is no bueno. Throw them in a compresser and add preload that way.

Maybe I missed it somewhere in the thread, but, did you use a spring compressor to adjust your coil overs? I have kings brand new in the box ready to install and I want to add 1/2” to 1” to the stock setting to clear 285’s.

if they're not in the vehicle i would do them right and put them in a coil compressor to adjust. i adjust mine on the vehicle with tie down straps on the coils to take some load off the collar. that being said, my adjustment ring is pretty hammered because of what was said about the resi fitting.

Ok that’s the answer I was looking for. I saw a bunch of guys saying they took their shocks off and adjusted like 5 times before they got the height they wanted. They must own a spring compressor.
I have a friend at an alignment shop so I’ll get it done the right way. Thanks.

All you need is a hookup at a shop just like you do. If they're off the truck already most shops will do it for a minimal cash fee.

Must be different with the King resi, I was able to adjust my Radflos with resi no problem. That being said, you're correct on the proper way to do this, however I didn't feel like taking the entire shock off the car just to adjust for 1/4". I was able to turn the collar very easily, I didn't even consider damaging the threads until you brought it up. I'm still comfortable doing it the same way, but it's a good point and something to think about. It would really suck to ruin something so expensive for such a simple adjustment.

How do kings perform off-road if you’re not doing high speed driving? For slow technical stuff, and rocks, are they pretty good?

Does anyone have pics with a 1.5” rear coil?

I'll try to get some pics for you tomorrow. I'm running Sway A Way 1.5" springs.

awesome, thanks!

Sorry this is the best pic I have right now.

why is that most of the king setups i see the front isn't ever level with the rear? the few setups i have seen they said they cranked their coils up but rode harsh. A lot of the icon setups i don't hear that.

When I had my set installed I requested a slightly forward rake. Why you may ask? We travel a lot and with all the gear we pack in the rear I didn't want the rear to squat. Also, I know I'll end up pulling my buddies boat and/or atv's at some point.

so basically it'll be either raked or hide harsh unless u have a rear bumper or heavy load, feel like not everyone needs a rear bumper or need to carry a load so king should make a set that sits level without cranking it so that it rides harsh

the king oem performance series comes ready to level the 4runner with zero preload

I think you're a little confused. With my setup I installed 1.5 inch taller rear springs as I knew I'd be really loading up the rear at some point. You don't have to go that route. You can use your stock rear springs and as nb rob mentioned the oem series already come pre loaded so you don't need to crank down the coils for more height and you'll be level.

Also, as far as harshness, I don't think mine rides harsh at all. I have the adjusters on my set and am running 5 clicks up front and 4 clicks up from full soft on the pavement. Tire pressure is at 36psi.

Your best bet would be to contact a suspension company such as Filthy Motorsports. They will have your Kings setup pretty much exactly how you want them.

Mine never had this issue.

That said, I think people who face this may have some extra weight up front, and KING standard coils are on the softer side. Hence why I upped my coil rates a notch even just for a dual battery setup on an otherwise stock front end.

~2.25" front lift on lowest collar setting. Not harsh at all

Its dark out so no pics....But just put 1/2 inch of preload on the Kings i installed last weekend. I am ridding at 24" center hub to fender front and 25 rear with the OME 2898 (440lb) springs I may drop the front 1/2 inch for a touch more rake.....I have a set of 650lb springs i ordered up just in case, but the 550lbs are giving me great height without much preload. I carry a SSO slimline bumper and warn winch along with full RCI skids and RCI sliders.(gas tank slider is the steel C4) ARB drawer system and fridge. Pelfrey rear bumper to follow......but gotta see how it looks when released.....

BTW, while on the vehicle, with the vehicle jacked on the frame & wt off the coils, adjusting the preload took me 3 min a side. unscrew allen, and twist with King adjuster tool. Super easy. I went from 0 preload to about 1/2" of threads showing....that gave me an additional 1.5" front lift. Have kids sports all am, but I'll post up some pics tomorrow afternoon.

basically want a 3.5" lift with 0 rake. i understand i could use stock rear springs but i want it lifted. Want the most lift out of a coilover without the harsh ride and level
