King shocks update!

After a long LONG period of deliberation I ended up going with Kings from Filthy Motorsports (with SPC UCA's) and couldn't be happier. Gone is the shitty mall crawler lift of the previous owners, and it rides like a dream.

After consulting with guys like LawnDart, and slowing my role in to the whole modding thing, I've been very slowly parting out the truck I want and decided to modify stuff I NEED vs stuff I want to create the Ultimate Overland Rig.

Thus, I knew suspension was first.

So far I only have the 1.5 inch sway-a-way springs in the back, mainly because I went .5 shorter on this to get extended travel up front and back and to level out the ride. Plus I have no drawers or safe systems as of yet in the back, thus I can't justify going any more springy anyhow with nothing to hold it down. Anyways, digging the setup.

That being said, super happy with them, ri

do you have pics you can share?

Longbow072 I am in the Seattle area as well, and interested in your Kings setup. I have a new 2018 SR5 and I think I'm getting the mod bug ... I think if I only get the springs i will be ok for now ... :target:

Anyway, where did you get them, who installed the setup on your rig and how much was the whole deal ?

Thanks

You guys figured it out lol.
I didn't need to crank the fronts at all (except a few threads on passenger side to fix the lean) so essentially my fronts are at the lowest setting height wise.

As for rears, the ICON 3" overland coil is a dual rate coil.. so with a constant load such as my bumper they end up closer to a 2.25" to 2.5" lift vs stock. You'll only get 3" rear lift from them on a stock 4Runner without any rear load.

So in the end I got lucky the stance turned out alnost perfect out of the box

Correction: I'm on 650lb springs up front.. added thread pics too
How is the JBA/king setup working for you? Any coil/uca contact at any point of the shock stroke?
There's not a whole lot of guys running this setup. I'm trying to avoid uniball if I can.

I love this setup. I wanted to avoid uniball as well so I went with JBA. Customer service from JBA is top notch too.

No contact for me and I have beat on them pretty good. Only issue is the uniball is rusting, but they now come in a cerakote finish to mitigate corrosion so it should not be an issue when you buy new.

Thanks, this will save me a bit of coin and maintenance over TC and what might be frustrations with all the adjustments SPC has. Im assuming you had zero issues with alignment.

Thanks again, its taken a bit of effort getting info on JBA. Seems like a great set of UCAs.

No issues, but I'm running stock tire sizes. I'm bumping up to 285 soon, so time will tell. I know these UCAs can get close to 4...

But for reference...

Working awesome so far. Avoiding uniball and more travel/ shock clearance over stock is why I went JBA. Would've kep my stock UCA's if they didn't contact the coils..

Even on extended travel fronts, the JBA UCA has no issues clearing the coilover at full droop.

Bonus vid for ya

Thats what i need to hear. Thanks :trophy:

Took the wheels off to get new tires installed and noticed something a bit concerning... Have any of you guys had this problem? The rear resi hose is rubbing against the resi itself. A friend who has a similar setup said he bent the elbow coming from the shock to give a bit more clearance. We tried to push the resi closer to the shock (forward, to the right in the image) to maybe give the hose some slack. But it wouldnt really budge.

If you are worried, just toss a small piece of hose around the resi hose area that is rubbing.

Hey ayeyothisiskyle, you can loosen off the band clamps, and rotate the reservoir toward you while pushing it toward the front of the truck. Once you have some slack, you can twist the shock body easily by hand to align the hose.

I’d skip the crowbar personally. When you have the shock rebuilt and the nitrogen pressure is released, you can reposition the 90 degree fitting if you find that your reservoir is sitting too far forward.

Mine clear both resi's. I'd us a crowbar to carefully bend the elbow slightly.

I guess I shouldnt take my friend's word. lol I just went out and muscled it forward. Theres more clearance, but I think I have to keep that elbow angle in mind when I rebuild.

Speaking of rebuilding... the average user is good for every 40k-50 right? Monthly wheeling trips and truck is daily driven.

I’m another on extended travel fronts with JBA arms. Great combo, zero issues, alignment was 4.5degrees out of the box and I actually brought it down a little bit.

Also FYI JBa will replace the ball joints for Cerakoted ones free of charge. You buy them and pay shipping and email them that it’s to replace non coated ball joints. They will send new ones and a return label. Reuse the box and send them back, as soon as they get your old ones they refund you the purchase price and the shipping on the new ones.

Got the Kings on a few weeks ago. JBA uppers. Extended front and rear, reservoir with adjusters blah blah. Running Dobinson 3” med progressive rear springs. With us loaded for camping and pulling the off-road trailer she sits just right. Had to adjust driver front about 5 turns up to get it level. Doesn’t like that Group 31 sitting right above it. But the Bilstiens didn’t either. What a fantastic ride. No I don’t normally carry two spares on the roof, those are for the trailer I just got them balanced and rostered had to transport them somehow.

One thing I don’t particularly love is the bracket for the front Ressy, having to put those spacers under the radiator support bracket and front skid to clear your now lowered sway bar mount you loose 3/4” of clearance. Did I do something wrong missread the instructions?

You misread, it said "remove sway bar and discard" somewhere in there.... it would solve that problem at least

joking aside, i recall a thread from a while back regarding an alternative: a replacement radiator support bracket, which allowed you to clear the relocated sway bar without using drop brackets....
Irrc, it was designed so the bar between the 2 mounting plates was straight rather than S-shaped, the shallower angle created more space on the backside for the sway bar to rotate.

I'll see if i can find it, anyone remember what I'm talking about?

Edit: Also, why do your resi's come with black fins rather than the usual paint/sticker?
