Update

Here is a short update: A few weekends ago I bought the supplies for the deckplate mod and plasti dipping logos. I only have so far got around to plasti dipping so far but deckplate will come soon! As for the leaks, I took in my car to get the sunroof looked at do to it not working. Turns out the leaking was whoever worked on the car last had taken the rain catcher tray out and all of the water was going straight to the roof carpet. So $500 later and now I have a fully working sunroof and a leak proof car. This also appears to solve what was causing all the water build up in the rear too. Some pics -

2wd in sand, how was the sand there? cause my truck pretty much sinks in sand down here.

unless what'd you air down too?
time i got stuck in sand was not airing down at all.. more of an impulse sand run HAHA

Most of the sand down here was very dry but some was soaked. I actually didn't air down this time , I didn't even think about it. Was a lot of fun though!
 
Got in the truck tonight and it started and idled kind of rough. White exhaust was pouring out of the pipe too and its not cold so that's not normal. I'm thinking spark plugs? Even though I had them changed with I bought the car. Or it just could be bad gas because I'm just under a quarter tank and my last fill up was at a Brookshire Bro's. Also over the last few weeks when I get in the truck and start it, I have to rev it to like 3000 RPM's before it starts moving. At that point it jerks then starts moving, the rest of the ride is fine. Maybe I just need to let it warm up more before I go. Your thoughts? Thanks.
 
Sorry for the lack of updates, my main computer is down and will be serviced next week. So until then, no major updates. The update will include a full deckplate write up. Also some more bad news, on the way home from Galveston last weekend, as I was pulling up to my driveway, the engine randomly shut off. When I tried to start it it seemed like it wasn't getting gas and it was sounding like a lawn mower and it wouldn't idle. It got me all the way there doing 80ish and it does this right there. Took it to Firestone the next day and told me I needed a o2 censor. I had them install it and the truck seemed to run strong but on Tuesday it died at a light. It did start right back up though. Any ideas?
 
hey! thread looks pretty awesome man! Going through your thread reminds me so much of mine! I'm also from Houston, have a 2WD 4runner, and HAD a green 4runner (got it painted at Maaco this past year, SAME Maaco you went to on Westheimer believe it or not). We also have done a lot of similar mods (check out my build thread)!

Anyways, currently in Galveston attending medical school so msg me if you guys ever go play in the sand down here :biggrin2:

Nice truck and buildthread man I dig the headlights! Thats weird that we went to the same Maaco, how's your paint holding up? I'm actually am in galveston right now to but not with my truck. I'm down here with my dad and his 5th gen and we were talking about heading down to San Luis Pass today or tomorrow. He does seem a little hesitant to take his baby off road for the first time but if we go are you interested?

Deck Plate Mod:

-I decided to finally get the deck plate mod done. I got mine at Academy for $5. I also purchased stainless steel screws and some 3M marine adhesive. This write-up is for informational purposes only and I am not responsible for any damage done to your vehicle, this however did work on my vehicle.

First Step Get a work space set up, you'll want a work bench.

Ok now remove the EFI fuse located in, well your fuse box., now that I look some places I may not have needed to remove it but oh well.

Now un-screw the three main bolts holding the airbox in-

Behind the headlight

Now remove the two bolts holding the mass airflow sensor in and pinch the little hose clamp to remove it.

Then lift the airbox out.

I traced the inner hole of the deckplate and cut it out, gradually trimming to make it fit. I didn't have all of my tools available so I "winged it".

Put that marine adhesive around the deckplate and seat it in place.

Now screw your screws in

Now replace the airbox in the vehicle in reverse order and replace the EFI fuse.

Update 2

While wheeling in galveston a few weeks ago, I realized that the rear was still leaking. Fed up with it I decided ripping only the rear carpet out and then replacing it with something - thus Kolby's carpet mod? is underway!!! I'm planning on eventually building a storage area back there.

my tires are 275/70s instead of the stock 265/70s. but it still looks great. i did the same as you and took those pesky step rails off. i have bilstein shocks which are great and gave a little lift. but other than that the lift is stock,i did however fix the rear sag with some spring spacers which brought the rear up a bit.
