koltlt 97 sr5 build thread

Today got my daystar d ring isolators. I love color green lol. Anyways, it was about $40 for everything. 8 washers and d ring isolators. I couldn't find any 7/8 rubber washers. And the issue is, the back savage bumper has a wide shackle mount. Couldn't cut a 7/8 hose to fit in between. But the front is much smaller. So I'll cut a 7/8 hose for the front. The rubber washers fit beautifully in back. Front needs extra 7/8 hose.



This is the back bumper. Barley any gap





This is the front bumper. Needs extra 7/8 hose.



 
$20 chain lock. And some like fancy ties so the chain and don't radle. Yeah I know. The bumper is bolt on. If they wanted to they could unbolt the carrier. But why make it easy.



 
Don't know how I missed this thread. Very nice looking 4runner you got there.

Cool to see someone with a modded 4runner in NJ as well.
 
Forget about hiding you license plate #, I have your street address now. :bigok:
I need a rear bumper with swingout.
 
Went wheeling today alone. There were lines that were pretty serious. I didn't go through all. Only few. Need more armor and winch. Or a partner.








They might not look hard. But trust me. Unless you got armor. Rock sliders or skid plates. Your going to be bottoming out or hitting someone thing. Some spots had serious holes.

Guys I'm debating between buying a winch or transmission and tcase aluminum RCI skid plates. I have front rat product skid plate. There was a group buy on here a year ago. The front skid plate has a lip that protects the steering rack. So I'd have to cut that little lip of. And I'm wondering if the tranny skid plate would still work. Because I don't want to spend money on another front skid plate. I'd rather modify my current and just new tranny and tcase.

But with a winch. Do you guys recommend big 3? 2nd battery ?
 
When you rhino-lined your front and rear bumpers, did you have to sand the chrome down first or any sort of prep? I'd like to do it for mine

Yes I sanded them with 120 or 180. But afte less then a year it started flaking. In other words. It's almost impossible to get a good bond on chrome.

So my opinion is winch and then second battery. I'm currently saving all pennies and hoping Santa will get me my 2nd battery stuff for Christmas. I suggest this because I can go out by myself and get myself out still to a fair degree. Now we all know about going out by yourself, but I've used my winch more then under body armor.

Now my condition is unique, I can't do do the rock crawling/bouncing you did. But I do explore and go out remotely when I can. I will always be able to use the winch and have lots when I hit snow which helped me huge in getting out. In all times I used my winch, armor wouldn't have helped.

Now, seeing what you were doing, still suggest winch just because of going by yourself. :)

Yea I was thinking the same. What kinda winch you running? Im curious if people run it on one battery without issue

You run your winch while vehicle is running. No affect on single battery. I agree winch should be top priority. Has saved my ass in snow few times.
 
Went to my buddies shop that he works at. He spoke to his boss and they let me bring in the truck for a free wheel alignment and let my friend replace my
LBJ , oil change , grease drive shafts and fix my exhaust because it was sitting on my cross member.

They just moved to a new location. They just got this brand new wheel alignment machine. Badass! You go on it, and it has 4 hoses to put air into your tires, jacks to raise the car of the ramp, it can tell you if your car is lifted evenly at each side, of course do a wheel alignment. Dummy proof!








Pic of the undercarriage, not bad for NJ. But I'm anal and maintain my truck. At least try my hardest. By friend, jacking up the exhaust little bit of the cross member and just heated it up and put a small bend away from the cross member.

I replaced my duralast gold LBJ with brand new OEM and new bottom bolts. I wish I could have taken a pic of my old LBJ. It was a matter of time before it failed. You should of seen the ball join. As he put pressure under the old ball joint. It had so much play in surprised it held up that long.

Hahaa. "It had a duralast LBJ". I put that when I bought the truck and before finding the forums. Now it's got OEM on it. The tie rods however are holding up.
