Kraze's Mall Crawler build thread

Ah, I remember seeing that build on here too. I didn't realize they used the TG crossmember though. And yeah I'm keeping an eye out for a local top shift TC on Pirate. There's a top shift one in Fresno with Marlin 4.7s already in it for $550, but they're 21 spline and by the time I add in fuel costs for driving up there, it isn't really worth it.

AddictedOffroad You don't have anymore pictures/info on the dual case setup on that one, do you? And does your sale on TG parts have an end date?

Just a Trail-Gear dual case setup. We kept the stock chain drive case in the rear. No noise at all from the system. We just finished another one on the Frenchy double cab that we built as well.

The crossmember requires welding on the mounts on the frame, but fits great.

Went out to Ocotillo Wells with some 5th gens and some Jeeps yesterday and had a blast. It was the first time I've really done any high speed desert stuff in the 4runner. Broker would have loved it out there haha.

The 4runner did really well, except for a persistent clunk from the passenger side front going over bumps. I noticed it the last outing at Deer Springs too, and my best guess is it's the lower control arm bushings. Those aren't going to be fun to change out, but after 219k miles and countless off-road excursions, I'm not really surprised that they've given up.

Enough with the rambling, here's the pictures, courtesy of SOcalTRAIL:

I got a fix for that, its called aftermarket extended arms with heim joints. They do wonders for the front end. Camburg sells them reasonably cheap. But for real, i have a 50 ton press if you need help with those bushings. It did wonders when i changed out my wheel bearings.

Also of you want some more high speed action I'm going w the TW folks to this in a few weeks

Now Broker, do I want duals or do I want long travel.

Both! I would do the duals first and then LT. I'm doing the duals first, to make the crawling sections of the trails easier. Besides, its about 5k to do LT right.

If I did LT, I'd do it right. Bypasses, coilovers, hydro bumps all right off the start.

But I think I'm going to do duals, and start a SAS fund.

That looks like a good time waiting to happen! I couldn't keep up with the strong majority of guys going to that though, including you lol. Maybe I can find some less equipped 4runners to go out there that would be more my speed. What day are you heading out and are you camping the whole weekend?

Do duals first, but before you do duals, lock the front :bigok:

If you are just talking about front suspension, 5K might get you there on a budget. I have well over that in my front suspension and I dont even have bypasses yet.

I may go Friday morning if I take off work but it will probably be Friday night and stay out there until Sunday.

I'm seriously considering it. It would be either late Friday night or early Saturday morning though. I'll let you know here pretty soon. If I do go out there, you'll have to save me a spot next to you and whatever other 4runners are out there. It's going to be overrun with Tacomas, us 4runner guys gotta stick together! Unless you're bring the Tacoma, in which case :flipoff::lol:

Ill be in the 4runner and try to stay around a few other runners. 4x4runner2002 should be out there as well. Only way ill have the tacoma is if i can get a trailer to tow the runner down and back since I will probably break something.

Umm, are you guys talking about Superstition?

Yeah I saw 4x4runner2002's name on the list and figured he'd be going with you. I'm not the type of guy to pass up a good time, so I'll probably be out there with you guys haha

I'm a maybe right now... We'll see.

Anyone know if you can come in from the North through Anza?

I don't think this is the way you're thinking about, but on Saturday, we went from Plaster City all the way up to Ocotillo Wells on dirt roads. So if you took the 78 out to Ocotillo Wells, you could cut down to where everyone is camping fairly easy. I think I'd go the long way all the way down to the 8 and over again though just to avoid the 78 haha. Windiest road ever after you pass Julian.

ill be in superstition fri morning till sunday. ive been three of the 4 years and its always amazing fun. bring your christmas trees to burn if you still have them.
also there is a jeep meet at the same time so there will be lots of 4x4s out there but its a big place.

haha ya you could say that and dont be caught behind them, they are slow!!!!

i have to fix my cb or get a new one its acting funny, but i got a hand held vhf radio that works great.
