First pics coming up. Can anybody recommend a photo hosting site besides Photobucket where I can upload an album worth of pictures without hassle?

For you uneducated Yankees this is how we raise mudbugs (crawfish) 6 months out of the year. The boat in the upper right is harvesting.


Does the altitude seem a little hinky on the GPS? This was taken while crossing the north side of Lake Ponchetrain on I-12.

The sign says it all. Look a little above and right of the sign. He was a little feller. Not more than 3 or 4 feet long.



The Mississippi gulf coast has much nicer sand than we do in La. I hear they have to truck it back in after the hurricanes. This is US-90 across the coast. You can drive it almost all the way across Ms with the gulf out one window.

Man, I am envying you big time right about now.

My job has been sucking and I haven't had a real vacation in 4 years.

Everybody talks about life/work balance. That's a joke. Corporations will work you until you have no life left in you and when you die, there is your balance.

What I wouldn't do to be able to just pack some jeans and underwear and say phuck it, I'll be back when I am back.

I guess I will have to live vicariously through you for a while.

Very cool trip indeed! I've always wanted to do something like that.

Having said that, I have driven to CA and up to ND, MN, and Chicago before. Usually it's just point A to point B driving though, especially with two little kids.

I'll be in CO the second week of May and the middle part of July.

I spent a couple years in Albuquerque as a kid in the early 70's. And I spent most to 2012 oil drilling in the Carlsbad area, during which I got to tour most of the southern half of the state. I did think about dipping down into Santa Fe after Colorado, but I just don't know yet.

My plans are so up in the air right now I've only swagged eta's for the east coast stuff. The Charlotte stop is already pushing me back one day to Monday. I hope to be heading to Rushmore by mid next week. I'll update the list in the 1st post as things get closer.

Both very cool places, too bad you missed Crater Lake. Its a tourist trap but for good reason. We just went to Tahoe this summer, cool place. Lake is more like an ocean.

I just looked it up, and we must have driven by it within an hour's drive on the way to the Redwoods! We did go see this one. I don't remember the name, but it was nearer to Joseph. We were told it had been formed by a glacier lord knows how long ago.

Ahh see you passed through my neck of the woods. My morning commute is about 10 miles on Hwy 90, and when the sunrise coincides with my schedule it's pretty impressive. Attached is a crappy cell phone pic, but you get the idea.

It may be worth swinging by DC while you are here - Cherry Blossom Festival is this weekend so if you come by early next week you can enjoy the scene with less crowds.

Its a great suggestion and I have seen the cherry blossoms in DC as a kid. They are beautiful. We just had ours blossom in my home town about 1 week ago. They line the main drag through town. I hate that I'm probably going to miss the dogwoods this year. I've also done the Air and Space museum on previous trips. And sorry, but you couldn't get me inside that beltway again with a tank dragging Da White Whale!!! :becky:

I got lots of pictures yesterday but didn't have time to download any. I'll be finishing the Pensacola Naval Aviation museum today then driving over to Jacksonville and up toward Savannah. So I'll try to upload some tonight.

pic hosting, you could try google drive and open a public read only folder or try dropbox.

if you run into trouble driving I-94 and don't mind the wait I can drive down from minot to help if something happens.

takes about 2hrs to drive from minot to Bismarck and about another 2hrs to bowman, nd.

but we are fairly nice to stranded folks on the highway and the HP are very nice.

edit : forgot to add, if you take state road 85 down into SD you will run into black hills, mt rushmore and badlands. 85 is devoid of gas stations so drive accordingly. 83 is better but 85 has better sights along the way.

My granddad got us a tour back in the 80's of the Air and Space warehouse and it was loaded with stuff. Remember seeing the Enola Gay and a backup bomb housing that was in plane. I guess they took 2 on each trip? Anyway he was a retired Army officer and an attorney with the FTC so I guess he had connections. I remember our guide saying the Enola Gay was not displayed for political reasons or something at the time. Also saw the German jet before it got displayed too.

Really enjoy this thread - FYI I grew up in Bozeman, MT and think you should head over to Livingston, MT and cut down to Yellowstone from there too!
