For the repairs I thought about it and became more and more skeptical on the quote. I called a former co-worker who owns a garage and he said he couldn't get to it for a week, but I told him the work that needed to be done and he gave me a quote.
Knowing that they will try their best not to have it leave the garage, I told them not to work on it and I will have someone else look/work on it. After that I essentially told them the quote and they said they could come close but it would be a little higher since they use Toyota parts, so it was all done for just under $1500. I have the receipt at home when I get back I will post up what they fixed.
I do not think I scammed them at all, because it was an honest quote from my friend using the info the dealer gave me.
At any rate I will go off-roading again except I think I will put on the stock rims with as large a tire as I can get on it. The offset of the aftermarket wheels I have really limited me on tire size.

BTW- It seems as though a 275/70/17 (275/65/18) is about the biggest you can do with no rubbing, spare tire carraige etc.

I was wondering if you have performed the rear diff breather mod by any chance? Those look like some deep water crossings! I have the parts to do the mod on mine, just haven't got around to it yet.
Sorry to hear that you sustained some trail damage, especially to the tune of $1,500.
There are a lot of moderate trails in CO that you don't have to worry about severe damage like that. Most of the trails in Summit County (St. Johns, Deer Creek, Red Cone, Webster Pass, Middle and North Fork, etc.) are very doable for a stock 4R. I've done several of them and have only bottomed out a couple of times on smaller rocks with no more damage than a scratched skid plate.

No the offset isn't what caused the damage. When I went a bought the wheels we tried to put larger tires on them and couldn't it would barely turn w/o rubbing. However we were able to get larger tires on the stock wheels and it didn't rub (we did do some cutting). I can't remember the size, it has been over a year. However tires side by side it visually looked like a 1.5 to 2 inch difference.
