For those playing along, the estimate on damages is coming out to about 8500 dollars. God...damn.

WOW. Just wow.

What's worse is that the amount of damage done to your awesome rig, does not count towards whether this is a felony or misdemeanor.

Oh well, it'll be fixed and it'll be awesome again.

In oregon it's felony theft. Anything 1000 or over is considered a felony.

Insurance is sending my a check for the gear stolen. And I am waiting to make sure insurance will cover all damage to the vehicle...less the cost of deductible.

Again it's the downtime of not having a vehicle. I'm working with the shop so that I'll do the install of the head unit, center console and tunnel, etc, since that stuff has to be modified to accept my comms gear, trailer controller, and storage system in the back.

The truck is going to get a legit alarm system once it's back.

I'm on a first name basis with the body shop who did my fenders and baja repairs. They know the vehicle intimately and happen to be a preferred vendor for my insurance.

The only floating questions will be if insurance covers my new steering wheel, and the tinting, etc. But they should.

I actually like my Compustar alarm, I routed the siren inside the cabin so its pretty ear piercing to even step foot inside.

On a side not I know how you feel as it happened to me years ago in our parking garage in the city. When we talked to security they said they heard the alarm and figured no big deal. They never even looked to see what was going on. When i got the Truck the window was broken and the steering column had been peeled open ( armatures ) and it looks like they were trying to start the car by taking the column apart.

The part that pissed me off was they took my bike bag and all my gear and my cooler filled with power bars and trail snacks. What the heck are they going to do with mountain bike shoes. gloves, bike tools and a helmet.

Sometimes life sucks and it's how you react and recover after it that makes you stronger and hopefully a better person.

Will do. Again it's mostly the fact that I can't start tearing the vehicle apart and replacing parts right now, and it's up to insurance and the body shop's schedule.

It's the feeling of violation, and not feeling safe to ever park it again in what was a safe garage.

Yep, that sucks as we know you could be doing most of the work yourself.

The parking thing sucks the most as that is why we finally left the city. Plus the people in Chicago are just rude and that's not me. I am the guy that would stop and help a perfect stranger and most people in Chicago would just step over someone that fell on the ground.

Happy to be out of the city and in the burbs.

Been pretty quiet but the long and short of it is that after 2 weeks of fighting with insurance they finally gave the go ahead for the body shop to begin their work.

The downside is that we're still fighting with insurance to pay for a new head unit, as insurance (Farmers) is insisting on a 'salvaged' unit. This sucks as the unit was in 100 percent condition before someone damaged it.

I'm hoping to get them to just cover a new unit.

This may be a good chance to move to a Pioneer or Alpine headunit and ditch Entune for good.....

Only IF the insurance will cash me out of the value of the headunit. My priority is to get a NEW OEM unit, failing that I want them to pay for a new stereo and the cost of having the shop colormatch the silver double DIN plastic pieces to the factory trim.

Again, I just want to get the vehicle back to what it was like 3 weeks ago. Honestly that would make me happy.

Yeah I know man. But if by the grace of God you get a monetary reimbursement, then you know what to do....

We'll see, tomorrow we'll begin to argue with insurance about that. I don't WANT a fancier stereo, I was happy with the stock setup, I just don't want a beat up OEM unit because insurance is being cheap.

That’s what I’d do.

I’m ditching entune in both the 5th gen and the tundra for Alpine. Getting the accessory controller as well so I don’t clutter up the dash.

I'm a home theater person, car stereos not so much. It's just not my deal.

Again 3 weeks ago I had things DIALED in the 4Runner, so messing around with wiring and futzing with things just isn't something I want to do.

Here's the skinny, I'm just at the point where I just want to have the vehicle in a state I can go and enjoy. At some point I really do have to go pencils down on the thing otherwise I'm going to really start hating it.

Sorry to hear Issac, met you once real quick at 503 Motors, Portland isn't much fun anymore- I live here and avoid downtown. We can thank our current and previous mayors for encouraging rampant crime in the city- by no longer enforcing crimes committed by people who clearly have meth psychosis. My boss was quite impressed with the wall squatter shitting in a door way on Burnside,and my in-laws with the lady covered with perhaps oil or shit from head to toe at the train station throwing garbage cans in the street and pulling her pants down.

Scary to think how that would go if you happen upon Skinny Pete when he's in your vehicle.

The rules are that they have to use the same stereo from your vehicle or newer with less miles than my vehicle. Given I have 45K miles on it, it's doubtful they'd find one in good shape.

Good thing it's actual miles and not the "quality" of the miles that counts. Your time in Baja is probably worth 20k normal miles! :biggrin2:

In the end I just want to get the vehicle back to where it was. I'm not upgrading anything, I get a newer model of inReach out of it because the version I had was discontinued. I'm having to pay MORE for components in some case.

It's all just a big waste of time.
