Leak on passenger front, any ideas?

Was changing oil yesterday and notice this thick paste like light brown fluid. Not sure where it is coming from

Looks to be in line with a CV boot tear. If it's not torn wide open it can be hard to spot the actual tear.

I agree. How long has it been since you replaced the boot and/or axle? I'd just replace the able if that's the case. Only an extra $10 over a boot kit and a lot less messy.

Thanks for the help and advise!!! Have not had to replace axle/cv boot yet (only at 60k mi).

Well, it's time to change the boot now. If you're under 60K and 3 years, it should be covered by powertrain warranty.

I would go through the PITA of rebooting over a weak, crappy aftermarket axle shaft. If you replace the axle, I would go through CVJ - they rebuild with OEM parts and only take OEM core axles.

Hasd this on both my CV Joints for the 2004 SR5 at 160K.

Boots were perfectly fine.

The metal clamp on the thin axle side is what was loose and grease came out from there. You may have good boots but the clamps gave way in which case you could get away with sliding the boot away but still on the axle, clean out as much as possible and then put new grease and new clamps.

Yeah that color grease is CV , sometimes those clamps could get loose so you want to check that.

If its covered have Toyota do if it is not, search hydrolocking you CV's for information on how to do it right and not screw up the CV's...the FSM is the best way to learn to do it right...spring for it.
